I have had OBA in 5 vehicles now.

I started with an ARB pump but it's not good for much more than the locker I had it for, but I guess they have some bigger pumps now.

After the ARB's I switched to ViAir. I've ran 450C's in the past and now have a 400C. The 400C is faster but isn't 100% duty cycle, while the 450C is 100%. For how I use the pump I don't need 100% duty cycle and the speed is very nice.

I've had them mounted under hood (Tacoma), in the tool box (05 CTD), and now under the bed on my '18. On the '18 I also ran the line to the rear bumper for hooking up the hose.

I have been using an extreme outback magnum compressor for 15 plus years. Had it on my 01 and transferred it over to my 17 still working great both trucks hanging under the bed
 
I've had this Oasis XD 4000 since 2006 . It has been used hard every day since 2006 and never let me down. Running air tools, grease guns, blowing filters and repairing tires. This thing is 100% duty cycle and will pull 200 amps at 90 psi. This also requires a 3rd battery and you need to have the engine running. Unlike most, this compressor does a hell of a lot more than airing up air bags and tooting a horn .

For the use I have, this complete kit is a nice accessory. I haven't aired up my RV tires from flat, but did take them from 110 PSI to 126 PSI with mine. On board air is great capability, especially when mounted out of the way. As an FYI, I carry a nice 110VAC Craftsman two gallon compressor in the basement of my RV and could power it up on the road with the 6500Watt Genset on the RV.

Let us know what you get and of course a write up thread documenting the installation would be nice.

I almost went that route. Mine uses the same compressor with a 5 hp dc motor instead. On your setup, the compressor sits where my air filter is. Did you have to move your air filter on your 2001?
No air filter movement. The kit came with a custom bracket that moved the alternator down a bit and provided a mount for the compressor. The compressor is driven by a duel alternator pulley.

Pass. Side outside frame just behind the Cab. I made some L Brackets from 1 1/2" angle Iron to mount the tank then mounted the compressor to the frame. Ran the wiring up into the sill cover in the cab. I will see if I can get some pictures.
 
While I am not David and don't know where he put his but on mine I fabbed up a bracket that sandwiched the frame rail (didnt really want to drill the frame) and had my compressor as high as I could get it directly behind the passenger side of the cab underneath the bed. Then using some thin scrap aluminum diamond plate I had laying around attached the pieces of it to my bracket with screws thereby creating a box for it to protect it as much as possible but was easy to take off for service if needed which frankly was hardly ever really just to check the air filter. I left the top open and drilled a few holes in the aluminum for airflow and a couple on the bottom for drainage in case water did get up in it. Worked great I also placed my solenoid and pressure switch inside the box as well. Had an air line go up front to my horn and ran a line out to the rear bumper with a quick connect. That way I had easy access to the quick connect at my bumper and my air hose could reach all four truck tires as well as any trailer tires with a minimum of hose. I placed my tank up above the drive shaft hanging tight to the bed cross member.
