On a recent trip to Vegas for the Safari Club shindig (we had a booth for our business) I needed to air up my front tires, maybe the difference in altitude??? I tried 4 or 5 places before having any luck. (various excuses!!) I said to my bride that I would not be at anyone elses mercy again!!! I immediately saw an opportunity for more goodies!!! Today I bought a 2 horse 2. 6scfm @ 90psi Devilbliss pancake style compressor. I found a good selection of inverters on www.store4power.com . When I decide on the appropriate unit I will get it and then build an aluminum container for the whole works including tools, shovel, axe, etc. I will hardmount the inverter, probably on a bracket I will make for the battery mount. By the way the website above has factory refurbised units for approx. half price.

That can't be a real 2 hp and only pump 2. 6 cfm! Recips pump about 4 cfm/hp. I have double action recips at work that pump close to 5 cfm/hp - almost as good as the screws. Sounds more like it would be a true 3/4 hp. What's the amps? Hp versus amps depends a lot the the type of motor - split phase, cap start/cap run, induction start/cap run etc. Still sounds big for an inverter to handle! Craig

bear track, I have had an on board compressor on my trucks for the last 20 years. The best was a used automotive York or Tachumshaw(sp) air conditioner pump, but there is not much room under the hood of newer trucks. I currently using a Grover 12 volt compressor, it' OK, there is better ones and you pay for the Qualty. I use a storage tank off a semi I got from a truck wrecking yard. I think your 120 volt is around 15 amps that =1800 watts not including starting inrush. the inverter will need about 150 amps to feed it. Good luck and hope this helps

The 2hp is Peak, and the Running hp is . 7hp which draws 10 amps. I'm looking at a 1500 continuous/3000amp surge inverter. I realize that the 12 volt system in the Dodge will not support this for more than short periods of time, but for what I intend to use compressor for, it should be OK.
