So what's everyone putting in their trucks to meet air supply demands?

I've been thinking about the 1609 Rickson Truck Grover air horns with their associated tank/compressor install kit lately and am just about to order.

Just need to check in with the experts before I make any move. :D

As soon as I get some bills paid off, I am getting an on board air compressor, and some Locomotive horns... why just get plain air horns like everyone else?? BE SEEN AND HEARD!!! I know the train horns are around the same price as the grovers, and make lots more noise when needed. :D

I got cheap......

And bought a $10 tire inflator from Wal-Mart. I got the tank, solenoid and pressure switch from J. C. Whitney. You could never fill a tire with this inflator but it pressures the small tank to 135 PSI which is plenty for the air horns.

Pressure Switch # 15ZX7723T $22. 99

Tank # 49ZX2219X $29. 99

Solenoid # 49ZX2214Y $24. 95

Napa had the plastic air brake line and ¼" compression fittings from Home Depot for the connections.

If you need any other info let me know.

Garrett,

Thanks but I need to go "somewhat" expensive this time as filling tires in the outback is one reason I'm looking to get on board air.

Chris,

I thight that way too! But Rickson's train vs truck horns are about $150 difference! While I want a quality system I don't think the price diff justifies the trade-off. I'm just looking to be heard and both would meet the objective (I hope).....

Yea, I wish listed the Extreme for a long time but the price ends up too extreme for me..... what kills is the cost of the compressor (380), then the tank (80), then the fittings/valves/hose (125) and... ... I think last count buying new was about $680 after all was said and done. I'd rather go $375 cheaper thru Rickson to get to the same place (pump,tank,fittings,etc--horns extra) with as little as I expect to have to use it. It'd be great if Extreme offered a pre-packaged, all inclusive kit. Hmmm, I'll call before I make up my mind, just to be sure.

YEEOUCH Garrett, you weren't kidding, that Oasis pump is almost twice as much as the extreme! And that's just the pump, the tank and stuff to connect is on top of that! Granted, it looks really sweeeet, but too much for my anemic, underfed wallet.

Anyone else?

Brian

Brian... Check out America's Truck Wash And Chrome Shop and look at their train horns. I know they have some that are like $250. Well worth the money. Think about it. you can sound like everyone else for just a little cheaper, but imagine seeing a dodge, then hearing a locomotive somewhere around, then discover its the big bad billy goat about to eat you!!!  Just a thought to ponder.
