Am planning to do some off roading this summer and would like to get a compressor for re airing up my tires. Does any one make a 12 volt compressor that can air tires back up to 60 psi? I was looking at the ARB. Any one have experience with it or any suggestions for something better. I don't want to get the one that runs off the engine unless absolutely necessary.

I bought a "Puma" check ebay a 12v unit with tank I stripped off the tank and am building a larger tank to install against frame using 10" dia PVC with caps so it doesn't rust. Going to hook up some Nathan train horns too

I too bought a Puma about 4 years ago. Not a bit of trouble.

Bought it from a company in Kansas... ... ... ... I think. It was around $350. Best money I have ever spent.

Will pump my Ricksons to 105 psi. Has a handle and alligator clips to snap on the battery.

I like it!Oo.

After having fried several cheapies trying to get to just 45 PST, I carry a Viair. I've used it several times, and it has come in useful on the Dalton Highway. I suggest getting the model that has a slightly lower output, but has a 100% duty cycle. That means you can run it continuously, not just 7 minutes out of 10.

I installed an Air Zenith and love it. 200 psi and 100% duty cycle.

I'm also running the Air Zenith. I ran one air chuck to the front of the truck and a second air connection to the driver side rear wheel well near the air bag valves. My pressure switch is somewhere near 100psi. Last year while camping I used the Air Zenith to pump up a large air mattress. Afterward I checked the outside of the compressor with my infrared thermometer. Max temp was 85 deg. Way better than the 25% duty cycle compressor I was running.

Edit: Air Zenith OB2 Air Compressor

I am running a pair of Viairs, 450C and a 550C with a 5 gallon and 2. 5 gallon tank. They are operated through a pair of relays and a single pressure switch. There is an air QD at the bed box that we use for tire inflation and what not. It sure is nice to have 7 + gallons of stored air all of the time. The draw back to where I mounted mine (all inside of the bed box) is there isn't much room for anything else in there. They are protected, clean, quiet and automatic.

There have been times in the past when I would get on a large deal that involved 60 or 70 trailers out in the middle of nowhere. If the units had been sitting for awhile, tires needed to be inflated.

In the day and age in which we live, hunting for an air machine while towing a unit behind you is a pain in the neck... ... ... ... not to mention that every time you start winding in and out of truck stops and C-stores, you greatly enhance your chance of damaging the unit you are pulling.

That is why I went looking for a portable 12V air compressor. The little Puma has done a great job. View attachment 75346

I have done alot of research into on board air compressors... while I do not have any yet, I will get the Extreme Air or Extrem Air Magnum when I am ready. Air Zenith is also excellent. ViaAir is more then decent for the money. Kilby engine driven is the best, but only if you need that kind of CFM on a regular basis.

I have the ExtremeAir also. Mounted it under the bed on the passenger side, just behind the cab, with a tank mounted on top of the transfer case skid plate. I installed a pressure switch on the tank, and solenoid/circuit breaker in the engine compartment with a on/off switch in the cab. Works very well and has no problem inflating tires with 100% duty cycle.
