Ok I drained my seperator for the first time today, how long do you let it drain?? Seemed to just keep draining and draining and draining etc. I let about a quart or more drain out, then I shut the valve and filled truck with #2. With the cost of diesel these days I dont want to drain too much out. So how much do you drain out?

A quart is plenty. Remember, you're just trying to drain the water, which is sitting at the bottom of the collection bowl, just above the drain. It'll drain out within a few seconds. Anything else is just good fuel gone to waste.

What sucks is diesel in my area is rather clear. tough to see a color change while draining.

I drain it into the bottom half of a clear plastic pop bottle for this very reason... makes water quite apparent.

Most times I only get a little bit during the summer... during the winter, I drain it every tank of fuel as the fuel seems to attract water.

I need to drink a 2 liter of coke then to get my a fuel drain container from that. I've just drained the hole thing once a month per instructions from Airdog. twice thus far and things are a-ok. I"ll be doing it again this weekend, I need to pull the air dog off to get at my air tank for them damn horns. again I keep mucking with it and braking things in that department.

I use a 1-liter bottle (for storage reason), but a two liter would work fine. Usually only takes a few ounces...

One thing I cannot stress, make sure you drain it often when it gets cold. As I stated, I get very little water in the summer, but I get a lot in winter.

I wonder if water content is regional. I've never gotten a single drop of water out of either of my separators.

I assumed it was a ULSD/cold weather thing... condensation maybe? I drain at least an ounce of water at almost every fill up during the winter.

I know I never got as much water from LSD as I have from the ULSD, which leads me to believe it attracts water (hygroscopic?)...

steved,

I wonder if your getting water from where you are fueling? I have never had any water in my tank. My truck sits outside all winter and is subject to many short drives. It would seem that it would be an excellent candidate for condensation, but no problems.

I rarely fuel at the same place twice... so its not my supply...

I will only say this one last time... the OE setup is a very poor design for removing water. Having a lift pump up stream of the filter that literally blends the fuel and oil into a goopy mess that will pass through ANY filter (I figured this out during my aux tank install).

I never saw any water in my fuel either... until I installed my FASS.
