I'm going in to the dealer on Monday, as I have gone through four keyfobs in five years of ownership. A quick answer would be a bad battery, but I've always checked them that and it has never been an issue. Basically the keyfobs last me about a year. Is this normal? The replacement fobs have always been dealer items.

I would understand if maybe the fobs had been through the washing machine or gotten wet. We have four similar work trucks at my employer, and all four are still on the original fob. Since our techs work in all kinds of evironments, the fobs are quite dirty. I took the truck to the dealer today and left it and told them that simply purchasing another fob was not an acceptable answer.

That sure does not sound right . My last truck was nearly 16 years with the same keyfob . The plastic finally wore out on the key ring, and I replaced it ,but the fob was still working fine. Never changed a battery. My 2014 Ram are going on three years no problems ,no battery changes.

Something is wrong, they need to find it. Those keyfobs are not cheap.

I have had to take the FOB apart periotically to clean the pocket fuzz out of it and changed the battery once a year.

Now thats a new one pocket fuzz in the FOB :D Is your battery getting bad after a year ? As I said before my 2014 after nearly 3 years the battery seems okay.

I have had the dash tell me fob battery low in the past. The range will get shorter as the battery weakens.

Never had to replace a FOB or a battery. We have an old 97 Chevy Tahoe that we keep a backup vehicle, and it's FOB is still working

I don't know why your fobs are not lasting, but I had another problem with mine and this is how I fixed it. My wife has a '08 T&C van. We both work at our family business. We would find the sliding doors and the back hatch open and couldn't figure out why. I than realized that the fob I was carrying in my pocket was getting activated by pushing against something in the lab while I worked. I took a small piece of polyethyline plastic (milk jug material) and heated it in the oven and than with a glove on my hand I molded the warm plastic over the key side of the fog, creating a half shell to protect the keys from accidental operation. I punched a hole in it for the key ring and presto no more accidental open doors on the van.
