I've had mine for one month. Quite a difference from my Dell. It's taking me longer than I wanted to get familar with the unit. So far I like it.

This is the third Mac I have owned.

Present one is:

Power Mac G4 SuperDrive Dual 1 Ghz processors, 2GB RAM, 80 GHD, w/22" Cinema Display and Harman/Kardon sound sticks.

Video games? OOOH, YESSS!!!

Never owned a PC and am not interested in buying one.

I just ordered the new "Mac Mini"! I bought the 1. 42ghz with the wifi bundle. Also ordered a 60gb Hitachi 7200rpm hard drive and a gig of ram to stuff in it. Going to hook it up to the HDTV/Home Theater. I should have it in about 10 days if all goes well. We also have an iBook, iMac 2nd gen. and thinking of getting another iBook real soon too.

I also have a Compac Presario RS3000 laptop, its nice, all the bells and whistles with a P4 2. 8 and high end ATI graphics card (128mb) with XP Pro, WIFI, etc... I am still trying to figure out why I bought the darn thing? Self abuse, a masochist streak? It's expensive to maintain, time and virus software, and generally a pain in the rear to use. Windows boxes are meant for people with to much time on their hands, just my opinion. Been using Macs since the 80's, but had to try a pc, shoulda bought another Mac.

Hohn,

Macs are made in Taiwan, by the same outfit that Sony uses to build their Vaio systems. Would be nice if they were still built in California.

The OS X is basically a UNIX variant.

"Mac OS X is evolved enough so that its features and what you can accomplish is far above better and beyond NEXTSTEP / OPENSTEP. Some regard that it might be an understatement to say that OS X is derived from NEXTSTEP / OPENSTEP. In many respects it's functionality resembles the same and one might think of it as OpenStep 5 or 6. However, the similarities should not mislead you. Mac OS X nowadays is based on Darwin and chunks of existing open source software from a large number of sources like BSD, GNU, Mach, ... and even Linux"

I've been running Linux for a decade on an intel box. This month just installed Mandrake Linux 10. 1 PPC on a PowerPC 8500 with a G3 daughter card. Cost of project will be around $100 when the ebay accelerated video card arrives. Cost of OS and more software than you can use - $0. Including browsers, office suits capable of producing compatible file formats, CD and DVD burners and audio burners, graphics manipulation, multiple desktops, palm pilot compatible PIM, digital camera software. and so forth.

Go ahead and take that old box and give it a whirl. :D

Started out with a Mac 512e. Then moved up to a 840AV, next was a power computing clone, power tower pro 250 MHz. Right now have a power Macintosh G3 333MHz beige tower. Plan to move up to a G5 cheese grater this year, the G3 is just getting too slow.
