So, being the ingenious person I am (or ignorant as my g/f says... . ), I think I'm going to try and put my old P4 1. 3 ghz computer into my pickup in some way. I recently bought a new custom system and have nearly everything switched over to it, and once I do I was thinking of doing a wipe of my old computer, building a custom case for the needed components, and installing it in my pickup. Would probably find some cheapo screen to run it tok, etc, but this way I could have nearly 2000 songs on it, run the diagnostics software, have my Garmin GPSMap 196 hooked into it, etc, and have something a little more custom done to my truck... .

what do you guys think? Maybe easier to buy a used laptop and do it that way instead? I can have any case built I want... have a friend at school who is a professional aluminum welder and he can fab anything I design.

P. S. Anybody got some pics of their setup if they are running one?

I want to do this too. I will probably use a laptop for an easier installation. I just want to find a way to get all the gauges on the screen, Then put the monitor where the gauges are. Data aquisition would be nice too.

If your at all serious about doing this, go to www.mp3car.com and read their forums. They cover all the issues you will be faced with. I have been toying with the idea for years and I have a custom system almost ready but I need some free time to get it all done. Maybe next year ... . :-laf

Do you guys intend to be using this thing on a regular basis while driving?

Yep... . no different for me than having my GPS running, my satellite radio needing changed, checking my 4 gages, looking for a new CD, drinking some water, eating a candy bar, and still flipping-off the guy in the PSD next to me.

:D

Thanks for the links fellas. Will check them out later... gotta pack up today for the trip tomorrow.
