I had understood that Ford motor had at one time owned about 10% of Cummins common stock. The theory was that it helped to insure a supply of engines for there class 8 (semi) trucks. Diesel
industry news had reported that in about 1996 or 1997 Ford sold its Cummins stock. This took place about the same time they sold the heavy truck division to Chrysler. Few people know that Kubota also has owned some Cummins stock. They are a huge company with global operations stock ownership does not controll a company unless it is more than 50%
I was wanting to know the same thing as I have a friend that does the same line of work as me. Every time I see him he asks me "Well did you know Ford own Cummins" and I think to myself I don't think so as they sold all there shares some time ago. He is a Ford man so maybe that is why he keeps telling me that.
