Ok...

I am not the brightest stereo installer and need a little input and some advice. My factory CD/Cassette finally crapped out and won't accept CD's anymore(not sure why,it just stopped). Had a friend who sold a rice rocket due to financial restraints and I picked up his Clarion Double Din CD/Cassette(model # ADZ625) with a additional 10 disc player, and his amps.

Now I know traditionally this is not a exact fit and thats where my question arises. Has anyone done the double din install on their Ram and could offer any advice?. How did you mount it,what or where did you get the harness to fit the factory stereo wiring, etc, etc?.

Price was to good to pass up and when it was in his car it was a killer sound. Any help is appreciated... ... ..... Andy

The harness is the easy part, Best Buy will have one. You will have to wire the new radio harness to the new harness and then it will plug right in to the harness still left on the truck.

Mounting a double DIN uit in a 1. 5 DIN hole could really be a problem. If you had a 1994-1997 it would be easier to make this works. You will definitely have to do some hacking away at both the dash itself and the trim piece that snaps in. Personally, I would sell off the double DIN and pick up a standard DIN sized calrion deck with Cd Changer controls, you can get one for as low as $179

You know my CD player will do the same thing, if I wait a couple of weeks the CD part will work again. I found out if you some how stop the CD from ejecting it will cause it to stop taking CD's, thats when I sit a wait a few weeks. If tried to remove all the power to the unit and try to reset it, but that doesn't help. Good luck

Hammer , It isn't worth the hacking. I run the most common head unit there is (Alpine's 1. 5 din cd unit) and that thing is and has been tim proof for 2 years now. As for the amps ..... ehhhh what kind are they? don't bother ampin' stock paperweights you will just get  I run just the alpine as mentioned above and Boston accoustic 6. 5 pro component speakers that are soley driven off the alpine and they just jam. then the JL staelth center seat 12" sub with the rockford 300A. 2 (Old school) round off the lows and the system gets MUCH respect from audiophiles arround here.

Thanks to all who gave their ideas.

Toolman...

As I looked today while shop had my driveline dropped updating the carrier bearing and u-joints I see what you mean by not hacking it up. It will go along to Carlisle and be given to a freind to sell it so I can do the din and a half deal.

Amp I got with deal is a Kicker 360w 5 channel and will use it yet. Had the speakers all along, wifey bought them for me a while ago. Going to do some surfing for head units and we'll see how I make out. Thanks man... ... ... ... Andy

Hammer,

The selection of 1. 5 DIN units is very limited. Alpine is no longer making one and the only ones I know of are Pioneer and I think Jensen is still making one. A DIN unit will fit very nicely with a small mouting plate.

I have a a newer Alpine (9805?) and a 5 channel Alpine amp with Focal Polykevlar speakers in the doors and some JBL in the rear (standard cab truck) with a bazooka behind the seat. I really love this system it is very noise free and sounds excellent. I just added XM to the Alpine unit and I think I will get my $9 worth every month.

The 9805 was only a $200 and it beats anything else I have had for S/N ratio and features. It has separate sub level control and XM control as well.
