Thanks to a drunk and stoned driver in an 87 W250 my ugly truck is no more. Wednesday at 8:45pm this wonderful human being blew through a stop sign at about 40 mph and hit me square in the right rear cab corner. This pushed me across the intersection until my left rear tire found some nice wet sod and I rolled up onto the driver's side. Luckily I was belted in and only recieved minor cuts and bruises on my arms and face. As one of the witnesses said "Gee, you sure are lucky you drive a tank". The impact was forceful enough to blow out both door glasses. The cab corner and box side are pushed in to the now relocated frame rail. I did get the old girl fired up Thursday night after topping off the fluids and cleaning out the cab. I pulled it onto the alignment rack and check the tires/wheels and thru the alignment heads on to check caster and camber on the axles to see if they were straight. To my surprise everything was in spec except the steering wheel centering. No wheel run out, camber caster and total toe were all fine. Thrust angle on the rear axle is . 01 degrees. To bad the only straight panel is the hood. Needless to say my 73 crewcab project just got a huge fire lit under it. The old girl will be parted out as soon as the lawyer says we don't need it as evidence any more.

I will be posting pics as soon as I find which file the wife stored them in when she downloaded them from the camera.

Later,

Paul

I now the feeling, I guess I'm the lucky one, as mine is repairable. Glad to hear YOU are all right. Hopefully the pothead/drunk was insured and you get some money for the trouble he put through.

Glad to hear you're alright. I got whacked 3 times in my 1973 w250 before I had to give her up. But I am anxious about the the '73 project. I want to do that to my 1974 Ram :) keep us posted.

Glad to hear you walked away from the accident.

Sorry to hear about the truck. But it sounds like it will live on.

Glad to hear you're ok, and that no one was on the passenger side.

Get a good lawyer from out of town to nail the drunk stoner- if you depend on a local one, money will change hands and it will get swept under the rug. At least that's how they operate around here.

I have no use for drug addicts, but if they want to do it in the privacy of their own homes and keep their loser butts there, fine. Let them out in public, and I want to kill them, or at least prevent them from getting behind the wheel again, sober or otherwise;).

NIce to hear the heart of the pickup is getting a transplant into another Ram.

Glad you're okay - trucks can be replaced, even 1st Gen CTDs. ;) Hopefully the other driver at least had enough sense to have current insurance, but based on his drug/alcohol abuse and resulting lack of functioning brain cells that may be asking too much. :(

Actually the only things I'm keeping from my old girl are the wheels/ tires, front bumper/brush guard, radiator support and all the important stuff on it, and the fifth wheel hitch.

I had all ready picked up a salvaged 97 to pull the drivetrain out of. I would love to keep the front axle and 205 t/case but changing out the gears from the 3. 07's and fabbing up the four link mounts on it would run the cost up too high. When I find one for the right price I will tranferring the guts out of my spare 205 into a left hand drop 205 out of a Ford. Until then I will run the 241 out of the 97.

On the offenders insurance I'm not to worried as the truck was his Dad's and he did have towing insurance, so it probably had full coverage. He also live on the reservation (sp?) outside of town, so he won't be getting any sympathy from the local lawyers.

Gotta run,

Paul

Parts for sale??

Would you be selling the remainder of the truck? As i would be interested in the drivetrain for a conversion on a 90 ramcharger. Thx Steve.

Wow, after seeing the pics I think you really are lucky that nobody was riding with you, and that you were belted in. That was a helluva hit.

Good luck with the insurance - sounds like you may have lucked out there, too. ;)

My 10 year old son was supposed to go to the range with me that night. When I got home from work he hadn't finished his job picking rocks in the yard so I didn't let him go. The Lord does work in mysterious ways sometimes.

That he does, and I'm glad he was working on Wednesday. :) The truck is of little importance compared to what could have been lost... .
