Anyone rebuilt their alternator?

One piece drive shaft

I'm thinking of replacing my two piece drive shaft with a one piece aluminum drive shaft. Has anyone had any issues after doing the switch? I've read a lot of comments on other sites but not enough to make a conscious decision. I have a 04. 5 3500 4X4. I'm getting a lot of vibration around 35 to 40 mph and then at around 60 mph. Now I could replace the carrier bearing but for a few more bucks, I could replace the whole thing.

Just looking for a few suggestions on the topic.

Truck has 178,000 km on it.

I did mine about a year ago maybe. Very happy with the decision. I changed out two carrier bearings in about 30k miles and said enough was enough. Call up Rich at Doghouse Diesel and he'll take care of you. You will need to get it shortened though. Check out his website HERE for more info. You'll be glad you did.

I also got mine from Rich. I'm happy with the results. I was getting a vibration at startup when under load (towing our camper). That vibration totally went away. You can swap out the drivshaft yourself in about 30 minutes (I have an 06 so the swap was a direct fit).

I bought mine from Dodge, had it shortened 1. 5" and balanced. Old one had same issues as yours. I have 2 seasons of towing on it and its just great. I see no down side at all.

I did mine a couple years ago, got it from Rich at doghouse. Dealer replaced my center joint and rear u-joint under warranty, started vibrating bad again in about 10K, they shimmed the center carrier and screwed around a lot, after several visits to the dealer without any decent results, I said enough, went to the one piece . . absolutely GREAT no more vibrations at any speed !!!!!!

Since Dodge went to the one-piece driveshafts in the 2008's, that ought to tell you something, eh?

Got 1 from Dog House about a month ago. Had to be shortened 2. 5" (every truck is different). No problems. You might look at your transfer case seal - mine had a split dust shield. Easy to replace - think it was around $9.
