need allot of input please--air filters???

All I can say is WOW, this is one sweet turbo. Last Tuesday I went to Canada and had Piers install his Hybrid turbo. After a week of driving and playing around I can say I am very pleased with the way it performs. Being that I went from the HY to the Hybrid I will say that I didn't know what to expect other than I will gain some lag. Well that did happen but it is not near as much as I was expecting. From a dead stop it reaches full boost at about 1750 rpms which on 5x5 for my truck is 57 pounds of boost. While on the freeway I smashed it and the highest EGT's got were 1300. That was at over 110 mph. Needless to say the HY would bury 1600 in about 400 yards. EGT's are up when cruising down the freeway but by the time it hits around 900 the boost is coming on. That is to be expected since I am cruising at lower boost pressures. With the HY I was cruising at 13 psi where the HX-55 is at 5 psi. As far as smoke is concerned, it solely depends on how much throttle I use. I hardly smoke when going with the flow. If I floor it..... can you say black out. ;)

The Hybrid uses a Schwitzer exhaust housing that is equivalent to about 15 cm2. It is machined to mate up to the Holset components and also machined to clamp to a HX-40 down-pipe. Since I don't know alot about the workings of turbos, I will leave the technical aspects for Piers and his crew to answer. Lag should be slightly more than a HX-40/16 though I have yet to compare.

As for results... ... 486 HP and 944 ft/lbs with DD3's and Drag UFM. :) Can't wait for larger injectors. :D Oo. I will post some pictures soon of the installed turbo and Dyno sheet.

Wow,486Hp out of dd3's,that excellent! Im glad your happy with the hybrid HX50. I was wondering how bad the lag would be on that monster57 psi of boost is incredibel with just dd3's. i can only get 48PSI with my B1 with dd3's. Do you have any smoke now WOT on 5x5 once you have boost? What injectors are you going to get next.

Chip, thanks for the report and the pictures. That is truly a massive looking turbo

You said the exhaust housing exhaust port matches up with an HX40 type downpipe? Looking at the pictures, I assume you mean it will fit perfectly with a 4" downpipe? :-{} darn! I was hoping it was a 5" exhaust port, so I'd have a good excuse to upgrade to a full 5" exhsuat :D

Tom

Nick, no silencer ring there... . don't think one could be put in without some machining.

Snow Man, on 5x5 there is nothing more than a haze. Haven't decided on the injectors but am thinking about some EDM's.

Tom, it was machined to drop in place of a HX-40. Supposedly just need to move the exhaust foward about a inch and a half. No 5" outlet on this bad boy. :)

Nice Turbo!!!

Chipstien... Just curious, as I can't see the dyno sheet very well. . Did you dyno with the previous H Y turbo and compared with the new Hybrid??? What I'm saying can you tell us what if any HP gain did the Hybrid give you with the same set-up???

Thanks, Steve

Is the exhaust housing a switzer or a HX50? I thought the center section was a switzer??? Oh well, i'll be finding out any day. :D

Heber Ram, unfortunately I didn't dyno with the HY so I have no numbers to compare to. I really couldn't justify the money to dyno with the HY though I am sure that others would have loved to see the results. On the dyno sheet the lower lines are with the Drag UFM off.

Hufnpuf, have you already ordered the turbo. I think you will be pleased when you get it in. :D

BFC is right, sorry I took so long to reply. Evan, seems there was cop wherever we were. Sorry I couldn't get it above 2x5. Next time I'll turn it to 5x5 and show you what it really can do. Oo.
