Online archive for TDR magazine

For those of us who haven't been members since forever and do not have back issues that are now out of print, why is there no on-line archive availible to members?

It is being worked on. It's a long arduous process to convert all of those magazines into a form that can be used well and doesn't take a TON of bandwidth to download. You should start seeing something in the next year.

I've wondered that myself. I thought it was just a logistics issue- not enough people to re-enter the text of all the past articles. I'd like to read the thoughts and theories of the past esp, in reagrds to HP/ Tq upgrades.

I don't know to be honest. The conversion process is actually scanning the text and putting it through OCR (with corrections) to make the file sizes much smaller. If the pages were simply scanned they would be HUGE. We'll find out more as the process gets rolling.

What are the plans for going forward? For example I was looking for information on the 3G 70 mph vibs and unfortunately the articles are in issues 45, 46 & 47. (My sub started with #48). Will this archive be covering the old issues?

We're working to get the key articles up as quickly as possisble form Issues 49 - 59. That takes us back ten issues. We'll evaluate where we are once those are up. It is a bit labor intensive, but we're getting very positive feedback.

The archives is a wonderful idea and I appreciate the huge effort to get that done - I'm really looking forward to reading articles from before I joined. I'm having trouble viewing the PDF's though, I click on the link to the file but then get redirected to the TDR main index page... is it just me??

The archives were working just a day or two ago because I looked up a couple of articles. Hopefully they are working to fix the problem.

It's fixed now, I apologize. I renamed a directory in getting ready for rolling out the digital magazines and didn't realize that directory was used for the archives that are out there now. Try it again and it should work now.
