When trying to put together a "build your own truck" from the Dodge website, I find you can only get a 4. 10 with the 6. 7 and the 6 speed automatic. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the 6 speed as opposed to a five speed transmission?? Why do they always mess with a good thing?????

3.73 standard on 6 speed non chassis cab truck

There is no option for a 3. 73 axle ratio because it is the standard axle ratio behind the 6 speed automatic. The 4. 10 is a $44 option on invoice. You can run 80 mph with a 3. 73 and still be at 2,000 rpm. A little clarification on the automatic. Dodge went from a 4 speed automatic to a 6 speed automatic and the range difference is incredible. The first gear is lower (1st gear ratio 3. 231) and the 6th gear is way higher (6th gear ratio 0. 625). If your looking at a chassis cab truck the 4. 10 is standard and you run about 1700 rpm at 60mph, 2000 rpm at 70mph and 2200 rpm at 80 mph. Still a marked improvement.

Just bought an 08 3500 SRW w/6. 7 and auto. The 4. 1 axle is listed as standard on window sticker. No option is shown for any other ratio. 5th & 6th gears in the auto are both OD. At 70 the engine is turning less than 2k rpm. By using the ERS and setting in 5th the rpm runs slightly less than the 4. 1s in my 97 at 70mph.

I'd like to see that window sticker - if you can fax it to (509)435-7761 or scan and email it to -- email address removed --. If it's a chassis cab it is standard - I order these trucks all the time and have done a vin inquiry on a couple on the lot that have the 3. 73. You may have got an early, early 08' where it could have been standard, but I haven't seen it.

It appears that either the Dodge website is wrong (say it ain't so) or Dodge has changed the axle options for 2008. If you spec a G56 manual, the only option is the 3. 73, but if you spec the 68Re, the only option is the 4. 10. I wonder if Dodge is finding out that the high OD ratios of the 68RE don't play well with the 3. 73.

If you will go to the Dodge website and go to "build my own", I believe you will find the 4. 10 is listed as "standard" on a 3500 pick up. If you "choose" the 3. 73 "option", the website will automatically change your truck choice from a dually to a single wheel 3500. Now, tell me who and what is correct. Dodge makes me want to puke. I want the 40/20/40 leather seats like I had in my 99 and my 2004. 5, BUT,,,,N O O O O >>>>> If I make my

"build my own" with a Laramie "H" package, I automatically am FORCED to pay $490. 00 for bucket leather seats. I DO NOT WANT BUCKET>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WHY AM I FORCED TO SETTLE FOR THEM?????????????? What the heck is wrong with Dodge?????????? If it wasn't for CUMMINS, I would buy a Chevy 3500 in a heartbeat. The perfect truck would be a "FORD" body, a CHEVY "allison" and a Dodge Cummins. When you see a Chrysler ad on television or in print, they brag about all the "firsts" they have come up with over the years. BUT, the pickup Dodge makes does not even come close to a Ford or Chevy in features like the large tow mirrors, touch screen nav system, digital temp control, memory seats, mirrors and pedals, and on and on. Does Chrysler/Dodge just want to make work trucks? If so they should ONLY make a Plain Jane and not try to compete in the "niceties" of thier competition. If I sound bitter, I am. I HAVE never HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE SPENDING OVER $40,000. 00 FOR A VEHICLE AND NOT BE ABLE TO GET EVEN THE BASIC THINGS I WANT ON IT. I am still waiting to see if Dodge makes any improvements in features with the "after Jan 1st" production. I need a truck now , BUT?????????

i can build a 3500 laramie h package and get the bench seat on dodge's web site. So i don't know why your so upset at dodge it sounds like you should go with a chevy. but i know you can get a bench seat with a laramie h package

but i am sure you would be happy with the chevy

Well the site has definitely changed. I can no longer order leather interior like I could last week on the Laramie. somethings is up. I bet they are still working on their site.

Quote from their site as of right now:

3. 73 Axle Ratio is not available with 6-Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission. Selecting a different feature will make this axles - gear ratio available

A speculative question:

Is it possible that D/C has made the 4. 10 mandatory in order to keep the rpms up a bit to insure a little better function (higher temps) of the DPF in "passive regen" mode?

If so, the decrease in fuel economy from the lower gears might be off-set by less fuel "wasted" in too-frequent active regens.

Thoughts?

When I placed my order for an 08 4x4 QC Laramie 68RFE - I had the option for the 3. 73's or 4. 10's. The order was placed Sept. 29th so unless something changed this month you still should be able to get the 3. 73's.

Mark, you CAN build with a 40/20/40 front seat if you build a 4X4 but NOT if you build a quad cab 4X2 long bed. Also the Mega cab offers different options. The reason I get upset is because NO ONE has any answers. Talk to Chrysler/Dodge and they refer you to the dealer. Talk to the dealer and they say Duh, I don't know. It is frustrations that p----- me off. If I ran my business like that, I would go broke within a year. When I can not answer something for one of my customers or dealers, I absolutely know where and whom to go to for correct answers. Apparently Dodge does not. The dealer "build sheet" is absolutely different form the Dodge Build your own on the website. Dealer promises he can get a 3. 73. The Dodge web site says 4. 10 on a dually with 6 speed auto. If I make a deposit and the truck is not what I want, do you think I can get my deposit refunded or that the dealer will keep ordering until he gets one right? I think not. My other Dodge trucks were never this much trouble to buy or maintain.

Bottom line 3.73 is available on 08' 6.7L

I have ordered and we have many 3. 73, 08', 6. 7L trucks on our lot in single and dual rear wheal combinations. Instead of ranting about how awful Dodge, the Dodge web site, and your local sales staff are, lets try and pose a ligitamate question like is the 3. 73 axel ratio available in an 08', 6. 7L, auto transmission and get some answers. I suppose that's why most subscribe to TDR and why others spend hours researching to find legitamate solutions. Please check the other boards trashing the 6. 7 and join those sites if you just need to vent. #@$%!

JTWCummins window sticker does show that the 4. 10 is a standard feature, however, in his option catagory, by choosing the 6 speed Automatic it lists the 3. 73. Yes it is a little confusing, however, his also has the 3. 73.

When you actually order a truck through the factory website it lists the 4. 10 as an option with the 6 speed auto, but the standard ratio is 3. 73.

If you would like me to build/price out an order for you just let me know and I will personally go through the options with you threw email or over the phone. I do have a couple others to get to today so be patient.

If we did order a vehicle with specific options, and the options were not on the vehicle that was ordered (at our store) we would either refund your deposit, reorder the truck, or (if possible) add the missing option (such as tow mirrors etc. )

5.7 L Hemi comes with 4.10 standard

The 5. 7L Hemi Gas engine in the 3500 comes with the 4. 10. This makes the standard gear ratio for a 3500 a 4. 10. On the factory order site when you choose the Cummins with the 68RFE transmission it automatically makes the axel ratio 3. 73 and gives you the 4. 10 as an option. I hope this clears things up a little.

Hey, fellows. I am and have not "trashed" the 6. 7 or this site. I am simply frustrated with the lack of cohesion with the Dodge website and/or the dealer computer order system and what you guys with Dodge sales jobs purport to know. I have gone onto the Dodge website almost everyday and it STILL shows the 4. 10 as standard with the 6. 7 and 6 speed auto. IF you click on the 3. 73, it throws you back to a SINGLE wheel 3500. I am not trashing or dreaming this up. If you guys out West have so much more knowledge than the sales folks here in Texas, you could probably make a cool fortune in Dodge truck sales here, because the sale folks know little or nothing. As a matter of fact, I have been looking at Ford and Chev as well as a Dodge and have yet to meet a salesperson or a sales manager who has even looked at the brochures. Based on the knowledge I gain here on this site, I in almost every case know more about their truck than they do. I repeat myself!!!!! IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING... ... I am trying hard to buy a new Dodge to be my fourth one. I have the business link guys print me an "invoice" and my local folks say "NO way". Please try to understand my frustration. I have been a member for over 6 years and enjoy everything I learn.

While we're talking about salespeople I got a story for ya. I went into my local dodge dealer and was walking around the lot looking at the trucks. A salesman walked up to me and asked in a strong german accent whether he could help me. I told him I'm looking for a manual transmission cummins etc. He said over here is a manual so I went and looked and here he was pointing at the 4x4 lever and it was automatic. That poor guy had no clue what he was talking about. I told him we would be using the truck for concrete work and he didn't even know what concrete was. It turned out he had only been in US for 9 days. A vehicle salesman is a pretty good job if you hardly know the language right?

not to drag this further off track, but superdave, even if you cant order your dodge with the 40/20/40 like you want, you can get it. How? Well, its your dealers problem, I have looked at many truck over the past years and eventually am going to pull the trigger on one, but here is my point. The trucks I have looked at never have the factory options I want, leather, heated seats, etc. The salesman at one of the local dealers said its not problem. If I want something, and for them to make me happy and sell me what I want, they would take another truck on the lot and swap out what I want in what I want. I dont see why they couldnt order up your truck, and if for some reason there is NO WAY to get your 40/20/40 bench combo from the factory, that your dealer cant swap out the front seats with one on the lot when it shows up. I would have a hard time believing Dodge would have a different bolt pattern on the floor for 2 different seat configurations. Your dealer should be able to do this, if not, they are dropping the ball.

Alphacowboy, actually the seat mountings are different as per 2 dealers I have spoken with. Also the carpet is cut differently. As to Dodge dealers or

Dodge factory,, the dealers would love to accomodate the customers, but the legacy of Daimler seems to be hanging still over them like a sharpened pendulum ready to fall on their heads.

40/20/40 Available

Yes, the Dodge website "build your truck" does have some shortcomings, and so do most be on the job 6 months and go somewhere else sales people. That is why if you find one that's decent (which most decent people don't stay around the car business) stick with him/her - ask for them by name and let others know to ask by name - so they stick around.

I have tried several different combinations of cab and options and cannot find one that does not allow for the 40/20/40 bench seat through the Chrysler factory site.
