Got on this AM and each thread I try to read only shows one post at a time with a dropdown menu above. I checked around looking for some settings and found one to click "sow all posts on one page" or something but it didn't work.

Was there a software upgade?

Vaughn

PS On another note while I'm in "complaining mode" :-laf why is Rob Thomas' truck the featured rig today?

Vaughn, you changed your display mode to the threaded view. On the upper right there is a display modes pull down menu, change it back to linear mode and you'll be back the way you were. There was a software upgrade last night that limits non-members to only viewing the first post on a thread for thread that haven't had a reply in 5 days but that wouldn't have done this. There are three different viewing modes that you can use - linear (default), threaded, or hybrid (like the threaded view but it still shows all the posts below). You must have accidentally changed to the threaded view.

On the reader's rigs we don't remove pictures from the readers rigs section because many people link messages to those pictures and if we did so those messages would no longer have pictures in them. The selection of which picture is put up there is purely random - we don't select them.

Got it, thanks Steve! I was looking all over in Control panel, didn't notice the Display Modes button. Have no idea how it got changed. . . it came up normal last night at home, but when I logged on this AM it kept going to the other mode.

OK now I have another problem. Every time I click on a link taking me to another thread I am not logged on. I have to log in again each time I want to see the thread. Tried clearing cookies to see if that would help.

Thanks again, Vaughn

The login at the top does not have remember me checked by default - you need to check that if you want it to remember you. Also, security settings on your PC can restrict cookies - do the stuff in this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108976 Remember too that the login is by domain name. So if you log in to www.tdr1.com and then click on a link in someones thread that takes you to www.turbodieselregister.com you won't be logged in there - you need to log in at that domain

Well I think I have an idea how my view setting change themselves sometimes. If I do search in Google and it takes me to a thread it takes me to the login page, and after logging in it goes to the Threaded View (it must be the default).

I just noticed this. I must commend you on thinking up such a strategy! It will be interesting to see what effect it has on the join-rate.

Vaughn - go to your user control panel and then click on edit options. In the 3rd box down you'll see an option that says "Thread display mode". That's where you set your default for when you first log in - after that it's cookied when you change it. You want to set that to "linear - oldest first" - then it won't change back to the threaded mode when you log in.

Thanks Steve. . . already had those set. It just happens on occasion, must be because the cookies aren't seen. No biggie, just one of those minor annoyance things ;)

I like the idea of threads not being too visible to non-members.
