Here I am

Ontario Bill 241-172.2 - to ban all aftermarket equipment on vehicles. this is bad...

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

A second unnessary war

Pep Boys!!!

it is also a joke. because some ricers are street racing, they want to ban street racing, but the way the law is written, it can be applied to any vehicle with aftermarket equipment...

wider tires -> better traction for street racing. go to jail

stickers -> looks like a race car. go to jail

big wing -> more aerodynamic [yeah right:rolleyes:]. go to jail

this is so stupid. if you want to read up on this bill, click here.

there is a petition online for people that are against this bill. if you like, please sign it. takes like 30sec to do. it could end up effecting everyone. "oh, your truck has a big 5" exhaust tip. makes more power now. go to jail" it could go to that point. it is for ontario, canada only right now, but who knows, other provences [and states down south] could start trying to do similar things. if you are against this, please sign here.

thanks,

nick

Thanks for the heads-up Nick! I belong to a Good Sam chapter and at our next meeting we are having a rep from the MOT (DOT) speak to us about Ontario licensing requirements, towing and weights etc. He told our contact that we (the members) probably wouldn't be very happy with what he has to say!

If you check the back of your DL you'll see the weight limitations. Gross Combined Weight of 11,000Kg. (24,000lb) and a towed weight of 4,600Kg (10,000lb).

Several of our members tow heavier than this, should be an interesting meeting!!

Don't feel alone up there in the north it is coming closer here in the US due to the group of clueless people who put loud pipes on motorcycles then preach "loud pipes save lives"

I doubt it has to do with straight pipes on motorcycles. They are already and have been illegal for years and tickets have been written. Seat height and handlebar height along with several other common mods are already controlled through legislation. So your dislike for motorcyle riders has already been addressed in the legislature. I don't have any concrete knowledge about it either so I'll just blame it on young people with small imported cars. Suddenly it's a different story when the feds start clamping down on what YOU enjoy. :D

I'm guilty of this.

When the "Cagers" start using mirrors instead of cell phones I'll be able to pull my "Loud" pipes off.

I get cut off more on my "quiet" Dresser (80 watt headlight and 2 55 watt driving lights), than I do on my '76 Shovelhead (55 watt headlight and "Performance" exhaust.

Stepping off soapbox, pulling on asbestos suit... ... .....

I won't even bother with a rebuttal - you wouldn't be able to hear me anyhow:D Let's just say I prefer quiet bikes - both street & dirt. Besides, the 80 year old blue haired lady can't hear or see you.....

Shovelhead, ever measured the noise level of your bike to determine the difference from in front of vs behind the bike? I'm curious how much directivity there is and if the loud pipes are really a 'benefit' when the car with the windows up, stereo on and the cell phone in the driver's ear is ahead of you?

Brian, all I know is it seems to work.

I like my "Quiet" Dresser too. 'specially so's I can the the stereo.

If I could just get these "folks" (trying to be PC here) to look before they change lanes I'd be alot happier.

Low Hz sounds seem to travel better in all directions.

Ever hear a "Thumper-Skate" 2 blocks before he passes you. You don't hear the high freq, just the Bump-bump.

how about look and signal. i've rolled up a few times next to a car that didn't signal. makes for interesting dialog...

me -> "excuse me, i think your turn signals are broken"

them -> "what do you mean?"

me -> "well, you changed lanes back there and the signal was not on"

them -> "well i didn't use them"

me -> "oh, i see. the signals work, but the driver is broken... hmm. you should get that fixed"

them -> "*** hole" (and bird gets flipped and window roll up and driver races off when the lights turn green)

i'm just trying to help:confused: :-laf

Didn't mean to Hijack this thread... ... but how many time do we have to hear "I didn't see you"?

I told Wifey to have that engraved on my tombstone.

They didn't see me 'cuz they didn't look!

It doesn't help when they look

Truly clueless person, not on a cell phone cut off a full sized Dodge van on a hill with a curve. Next light, we asked why she moved when she did. Her response was, "I couldn't see, so I moved over. "

She deliberately moved into an area she couldn't see into, BECAUSE she couldn't see over there. Half of the drivers on the road were in the bottom 50% of the driver's ed classes...

Took a load of stuff down to Florida for my grandparents in a U-haul a while back. On the way down, a trucker almost took the hood off the truck when he changed lanes. Had to slam on the brakes and steer to the left(was in the center lane of the 3) so he didn't nail us. Didn't use signals either.

Another thing that torqued me off on the same trip, was when I needed to change lanes for vehicles getting on the interstate. When the person behind me was about 15-25 feet behind me and I flipped the blinker on, they would floor it to get past me instead of letting me over. He was going about the same speed as me before. This happened more than once. #@$%!

And I thought we had alot of morons here.

I've sent more than a few cars into the center divider shoulder on I-5 in the San Joaqin valley because they had to get past that big slow lumbering 5th wheel when I flipped on my blinker. I've given up on using the blinker and just check the mirror and go - keeps the jack arse 300 ft behind me from trying to pass me that way.....

Whats the difference in running straight pipes on a Harley and running a stright pipe on a Dodge Cummins Diesel . Those 80 year old ladys hear better than you might think . Its call'd a hearing aid . I know what the difference is running a straight (aftermarket) exhaust on a Ricer (car)~~~~~~~~it sounds like sh!+ !!!!!!

About 500 decibals.

Put a turbo on those annoying bikes, then they will be about right.

I can here every Dodge Cummins Diesel (thats running a straight pipe) in the town that I live that are a least a mile radiance away from my house , ain't no worst than all those "annoying" American made Harley's that I here also . But then again its probably my fault that so many of the Dodges are running straight pipes cause I handed out way to many TDR fliers . A Dodge Cummins Diesel with a five or six speed transmission with a straight pipe sounds good , but then so again does a Harley and I have never own a Harley .

The fact that there's probably 10 times more exhaust pipe makes more difference.

On the original subject, my Canadian friends say that the Gov. up there does not listen to the Population once they make up their minds to do something, so it might be a moot point

Turbo's make good mufflers, if you don't think so, ever heard an old 318 Detroit with a straight pipe

My truck still has the muffler and will keep one if I change the exhaust

I did not say Harley because around here we also get crotch rockets with straight pipes and they are also quite annoying

the problem is that it might sound great to you, but 90% of the population finds it annoying, guess who the politicians are going to listen to

I have owned 3 Harley's and they all retained their stock exhaust and I had no more problems being cut off while riding them than I did while driving a car

and just so you know, while I was driving my air conditioned semi with the radio on, I could not hear your straight pipes until you were in front of me on the highway

I think we should have a new law passed, straight pipes are legal as long as they point straight up at the riders ears

I live over one mile from a windy hill country road and every weekend I get sick of listening to MC's race up and down. My brother has got so PO'd he has resorted to shoveling gravel in the corner on his street :D That seems to slow them down to the posted limit of 55 MPH. Hitting that gravel at 85MPH (or 105?) sends them into the flowers. I have to admit that I have considered doing this too but havnt. These A-holes are at least twice as loud as my straight piped 98, you cant hear it at all on the same road. We'll see how this Spring goes, last year a call and meeting with the Sheriff Dept got a few "awards" handed out and a couple of arrests to some dumb a$$'s doing over 125MPH :-laf bet that put a dent in their travel funds.

Pipes do raise your ability to notice bikes

Pipes saved the life of a harley owner the other day. I was pulled up the a stop sign and was about to pull out when i heard him. I looked high and low and I couldnt see him. I waited and just then he popped up over the hill. He was only about 80 ft from me and I was unable to see him. If I had pulled out he would have had to take evasive action.

I live in alaska and the riding season is short. So the car operaters have a tendency of overlooking them. A piped harley has sat in my blind spot on more than one occasion. I remember one instance when I was about to switch lanes and I realised because of the sound of the bike that someone was there. I was daydreaming and would have creamed him.

I dont ride bikes any more. I lost my best friend on my bike a year ago. He made a fatal error. By my estimation he target fixated.
