You read the whole thread and it sounds like More people bought Fords than bought Dodges.

DENNY... ... ... ... ... ... .

Tool Man, if you get down to the bottom you can read about why I traded my Dodge for a Ford. I traded mine for a crew cab because I needed more room for all those bikini girls riding around with me:p and my dad traded his 3500 in on a crew cab F550 because we needed a truck with 4 doors that could haul a 2 car enclosed trailer. I still think Cummins is better engine but Ford builds a better truck:)

ford builds a better truck? you have got to be kidding.

product loyalty is a strange thing. sometimes people see what they want to see. as a fleet buyer, we see one thing, dodge has built a better work truck since 1992. we keep trying the ford and chevy "heavy duty" pickups, and standard or auto trans the dodges outlast them all. weve got two gm duramaxes on order because of the four doors, and ill give them a chance, but we all agreed that if dodge offered a real four door, thats all we'd have. that again is a fairly independent view from someone that has seen them all come and go for 15 years. and by the way, id love to see any bombed ford keep up on a hard pull with my slightly bombed 2001. 5 eth [about 300 hp] , anytime, anyplace. oops. im supposed to be impartial. load them up heavy and lets see how your light duty dsl does against my little inline.

Packman,

I bet my bombed 12v Dodge would've blown your doors off.

Big deal.

I've never understood these sorts of brand wars. I sure there's a Ford somewhere that's faster than your truck then another Dodge that's faster than that and perhaps a Chevy faster than those and so forth. There's always a bigger fish.

So, you'll blow pass me as I'm hauling my 14k lb. trailer up the hill. If that makes you happy go for it. I'll just wave as you go by. It's no big deal. I'm happy with my truck (more so than I was with my '01 eth/dee) and your happy with yours. Sound like a good deal all around.

My reasons for trading my Dodge for a Ford are simple--Dodge couldn't fix my truck to keep it from veering all over the place. Cell phone usage while driving it was no problem--heck, it didn't steer any worse with my off the wheel then with them on!

But I've been surprised by how much I like this Ford. It's a good truck (so far... ).

One thing I've noticed--there's a lot of dis-information from both camps about the other's truck. It makes me wonder what the truth is about the new Chevy.

mike, i wasnt talking about speed while towing, and im sure there are alot of trucks that can outpull and outperform mine. our ford psds have no problems as far as pulling [in a way that preserves the engine and drivetrain] . i hope you note that we have and drive the psds. i just get a little irritated when i keep hearing that our dodges are a sorry truck built around a good engine. im not going to melt my engine to prove to another truck that i can beat him up the next hill. the differnce is the small stuff that we have to put up with as far as the fords go. give it a while and youll know what i tried to say. not brand bashing, just experience.

Mike sez:

"My reasons for trading my Dodge for a Ford are simple--Dodge couldn't fix my truck to keep it from veering all over the place. "

YUP - LOTS of isolated incidents and "misinformation" floating around about various brands of trucks! I'm sure you realize that YOUR problem was an ISOLATED one, NOT typical of all Dodges by ANY means - what YOU experienced was POOR DEALER SERVICE, not a Dodge truck failure. Sure, in your case, it amounts to the same thing, but the SAME THING may well occur with ANY brand, including your NEW truck!

My buddy is now experiencing a bad starting problem with HIS '99 Ford PS - do either of us now think Fords are junk because of his problem? Not at all - it's just an isolated incident that OCCASIONALLY happens to SOME Fords, and is undoubtedly easily corrected by a competent Ford service shop - and he would be dead WRONG to trade off his Ford on a new Dodge just to escape a problem that SHOULD be easily corrected by a tech who knew what he was doing!

You may do quite well with your new Ford - and I sincerely hope you DO - they ARE good trucks, just keep issues in perspective, and separate what issues and problems are TYPICAL and common from those that are random and isolated - then hope you can find the sort of knowledgeable help that can get you back on the road in style!

For me it is which truck serves my needs best. I don't have to pull a car trailer with my truck anymore, we have a crew cab F550 for that. Why a 550 instead of a Dodge? We needed a truck that could pull a 20,000 lb trailer (2 car with a lift and living quarters) and still haul 4 adults in comfort. Why did I buy a Ford for my personal truck? Pretty much the same reason. I don't have to work my truck anymore so I'm ready to play. Work in a Dodge, play in a Ford. I still think both trucks are equal. Ford gives me more configurations to choose from (i. e. reg cab, super cab, crew cab, short bed, long bed, 250, 350) and I'm tired of dealin with Daimler Chrysler. They gave me all kinds of crap and wouldn't work on my truck. Niether would Cummins. Guess that's my fault or adding all those performance goodies. Didn't do me any good. Still got my butt stomped by everything with four wheels. Am I bitter about it? No. I just don't want anybody to critisize my choice to buy a Ford. I like my new truck and maybe someday I'll buy another Dodge or God forbid a Chevy if they turn out to be a good truck.

i agree with you on that, jeff. we have an assortment of 550's and chevys, and dodges that all meet a specific need for our company. im partial because ive used all different trucks and had the best luck with our dodge ctd combinations. i also have a 80 ford 150 in my driveway with 378000 miles and has only needed normal maint and brakes over the years and is still going strong. service means everything, if you have a service dept that cant tell a loose intercooler hose from a faulty turbo, then you are not going to be happy with your truck. by the way i hope that you haul for fun and not profit, because that 550 and your trailor puts you in the commercial category, our dodges dont.
