Well Spring is in the air now and the cold weather is ALMOST behind us. In another week or two I will be sending the Dodge to the Body Shop for a completely new paint job. The color will remain my favorite, BLACK. All of the decals, trim, moldings, light assemblies, bumpers, nameplates, and even the back window will be removed. I was thinking that while I have a chance for a fresh new start, why not do somethings different?

Since I will have to purchase all new nameplates and decals, I was thinking I would replace them with 2004 pieces. On the door, I would use the RAM 3500 chrome emblem, the new Cummins emblem in front, and the same thing out back. Question is what do you think?? Also what ideals do you have?? I was going to leave the body side molding off till I see what it looks like with out it. If you think you might have an ideal, let me know. I had also had the ss POWER WAGON plates, they are coming off, and I don't really see me using them again.

So your going with a single tone truck? Any graphics/stripes ? Maybe a scoop hood. I have a solid red truck if I ever have it repainted I would add something to break up the body lines like a stripe or lower break color.

Maybe have the bottom sprayed with bedliner material and not painted.

OK , maybe the giant blue "C" is that stealthy, but i can turn it off? Yes it is going to be a single color paint job, at least at first. I included this picture to show the SS sides I am going to leave on. The wheel well trim is going, as is the body side molding and all the OEM and after market nameplates. If I was to do a flame job, it would have to be very light ghost flames. I really do not feel like someone who would have flames on there truck, nor would I like the two stripes down the middle of the truck, like the early SST's. I was think small, little jesters that get noticed but they don't scream look at me. I thought the ideal of a second generation truck with third gen nameplates was appealing, subtle and only the well informed would pick it up. Also, I have small 2" and 2 1/2", LED lights that I am going to install in the front and rear Buckstop bumpers. Hopefully they will turn out like I expect, they are a simi-flush mount. Also all the decals are coming off, I have plenty of others, and maybe I can come up with a theme.

i removed all the emblems off my truck and installed one custom emblem. now gonna go for the custom paint. I like the stealth mode too

Well, there is only so much subtle that you can be with a 3500 4x4 turbo diesel!

I notice yours is an SLT. Are you going to go with the monochrome black look? A black sport grill and bumpers?

How about a nice grey pinstripe along the die line under the windows? I was playing around with a multi-layer pin stripe that I got at Checker. It was $7 for a 40 foot strip of 5 lines and it looked suprisingly good on the 97. It really visually added a lot to the sides. A professional job would probalby really do it justice.

Or how about a rump stripe like the Chargers and Super Bee's of late 60's/ early 70's? In the middle of the stripe instead of the Bee you could put the Cummins "C".

Even though its already a sharp rig, whatever you do I'm looking forward to seeing the after pictures.

i have some subtle pinstripes on my truck that looks pretty good, you can see them here: #ad

Hey y-knot - How about some nice swoopy graphics like they put on those pricey motorcoaches rolling up and down I-75. :D

Seriously, check out paint schemes on some of the private jets. Some are as gaudy/crappy as the Prevosts but others are nice, subdued and, above all stealthy. You can probably find lots of pix on airaft-for-sale sites.

Two thoughts come to mind: "Less is more. " "Simplicity is difficult to achieve. "

I'd lose the flames idea bigtime. JMHO.

OK, well I'll go along with the "soft" ghost flames. Gary's post reminded me that I have seen pix of his truck and the flames are subtle and look nice. But, as I recall, his truck is gray? So the background for the flames isn't real contrasty as it might be with black, eh?

y-knot - if you change your mind about the subtle concept you could always consider one of those Flying Tigers paint jobs then your big blue "C" would be in the tiger's teeth. That might be cool especially if you installed on of those fake nitrous purging gizmos in there with the "C". Pull up behind some ferd or ricer, rev the motor, flash the Blue "C" and hit the purge a couple times.

Rt66Doc had a good idea with the aircraft graphics. Check out the web page www.enstromhelicopter.com and click on the colorator for the model 480. It might give you some ideas. Steve ps while you are there click on listen to the 480 starting. That will give you wood!

I agree, that is one cool looking truck y-knot!

I like that Blue C in the grill!

If I ever see you on the Interstate at night I'll flash my Clearance Lights at you!

Sageair - Enstrom site = Wouldn't it be nice if the Cummins sounded like that every time you lit it off? My dogs went ballistic when they heard that turbine - all seven tried to howl in synch with it.

Oo.

Yknot, all I can say is make it metelic flake black, add the chrome,or ss. Because "You can't Rome If you don't Have the Chorme" But dont over do it , Oh yeah try the chorme tint on the glass.

Well that was some interesting suggestion... . let me see, the metallic black paint, yes it is nice, but no I am going with the OEM Black base coat clear coat system. To really make it look right I would have to paint many areas that I don't want to paint. Like the door jams, ect. I do like metallic paint, but it isn't going to be on this one.

Stacks..... I think stacks are for certain types of people, and I am not one of them. I would have to change way to many things to get them in my bed. Right now I have an aux fuel tank and a tool box and winch setup in there. Also I pull a goose neck trailer and I could not afford to push the tank and tool box any further back by the hitch. I like to look at them on other trucks, I had just seen a big rig last week, with what looked like a 8" set of stacks. They were done very nice and in chrome, looked awesome, the truck too look great.

Flames. . I don't see my truck as a flame thrower, it makes smoke... but no flames. There are several Dodges around with both ghost and high visibility flames. I saw some magnetic flames today at the flea market, now those are a maybe. Stick them on for a day then take'm off, sounds great.

I think I will just take my time and add one item at a time. I want a different look then I have now. I will also leave the body side molding off, and see how I like it. The new name plates are not too bad, they will cost about $200. 00. Also I do not like tinted windows, I like to see out, and have people see in, so That's not a good ideal. I bought a new dual in-line steering stabilizer, and blue shock boots for it. Also the rock ring will be here this week and I had it powder coated FabTech blue. So I guess that will be my them Black and Blue? I am thinking about changing the color of the rear MagHytech cover to blue w/ polished aluminum ribs. I just hope the paint job comes out nice, black is a very hard color to shoot and have it look good. I am having it done at the Dodge dealership by me. They have repaired a couple of our cars before, and they looked nice. Looks like it goes in on the 03-10-04, as long as the body shop doesn't have any back ups. I will remove the Buckstop bumper this week.
