Open to Suggestion...Rigging truck in trailer

Where to put CB ant.

Can anyone help deliver an engine for a charitable cause?

I'm going to be hauling a Ford in my GN hauler...

Trailers interior height is 6' 6"

Truck to top of clearance lights is 6' 5. 25" thats 3/4" to spare...



I'm thinking remove the clearance lights, air down the tires, strap the axles down as normal but also put 4 straps between axles and frame and crank them down... I don't want the suspension on the Ford bouncing the truck through the roof of my trailer...



I figure doing this will give me close to 6" of clearance... any other suggestions/advice... .



My brother already suggested putting foam on top of the ford and airing up the tires and just wedge the thing in there and forget the straps... so I need more orginal ideas

If you have a way to tie down to the floor of the trailer, just run straps over the FRAME and ratchet'em down real tight with some air out of the tires. If you use heavy duty straps (ie: the 3 inch thick ones) they won't give at all.





ps. I don't think the foam will help at all, it will just keep the dent in the roof of your trailer from having paint marks on it :)
 
Letting the air out of the tires is not good for the tire side walls. Straping the truck down limits the travel up the truck can travel, but the whole idea seems a bad one to me. Thats my 2 cents:( :(

I'll second this suggestion. If you crank on it enough, you won't have to worry about the tires "walking" around and allowing the vehicle to slid against a sidewall. Some blocks wedged against the wheels just in case of an emergency stop or worst case scenario, an accident, would not hurt. If the floor is wooden, nail the blocks down with some 16 pennys. I like to criss cross my straps and pull on both ends.



Airing down the tires will not hurt for transportation. Don't let out more than you need to. Else, you pick up more sway.
 
just to clarify... i didn't mean to let all the air out, just enough to give you another inch or so of clearance.
 
I'd skip the axle straps and tie it down by the chassie. Once you ratchet it down it can't go back up.

P. S. I've driven all around the country with a racecar in tow and it has only fallen off once!
 
The downside of strapping the frame is a rougher ride on the trailer suspension. If you're close to max load on the trailer you really notice the difference. I've hauled vehicles under 1" clearance and no rub marks with just axle straps.
