Looking at getting a set of Tires called Wild spirit DTX. The guy at Big-O said they might be made by Kelly tires. Any opinion on these? Good, bad?

Edit: See now on a site they are Cordovan tires

I just bought a set of the Big O brand A/T which are very similar, if not exactly like these- saleman said the same: designed by Goodyear, made by Kelly. They are obviously more agressive than the stock Mich's that came on mine. I stayed with the stock size (265/75) because I did not want to mess with speedo problems nor raised eyebrows from service writers with regards to warranty. My initial feeling is that I made the wrong decision on these tires. I was told by the salesman that these were the only ones available in a "E" load range (maybe at thier store. ) I wanted to go with an A/S tread design. I am sensing quite a pronounced oversteer sensation with these and it could be a problem if my steering components wear. I definatly now have to go the speed limit or less. I thought the stock Mich's handled very well, but I will have to get used to these and slow down. If you like handling over agressive traction, I would not recommend this tread design. I do like the Big 0 brand and their road hazzard coverage. -frank

EDIT: I paid $780/ 4

Getting 285/75-16

These tires are $139 Installed and with a unsed spare, I get $120 for that so all 5 tires will be $579. I have a AT tire right now and have been happy with it but didn't want to spend the $167/tire for The BF Goodrich..... they have some price fixing so all dealers are the same.....

Anyway, I'll give this a try, I also ordered the Superlift truspeed calibrator to correct the speedo.

OK! heres my tires installed. They are a little more of a MT but does have sipes and is ready for studs if I so desire.

Wt rating it a D at 3305# single at 65psi.

Eric- keep me posted on this thread as to what you think. I actually went back to Big O on my lunch break today and the manager told me that they have been getting many complaints about handling problems with this tire on long wheelbase trucks as I described above. He says it is due to the "squared- off" corners of the tread cross section on the edges. I cannot say enough about the great customer service at Big O. They are taking back the BO brand and setting me up with Mich A/T's with no up charge and are throwing in an alighmnent check to boot! Curious as to how you will like your new tires. -frank

Frank, I will have to do a little experimenting but I right now have all around , the tires at 55 PSI. I can hear the tires sing alittle but not much. Being new and not worn down like the old ones, it has a little squishier feel but I only drove it a couple of miles so far. The BFG's I had has sqared off shoulders and I think that shouldn't make a difference so I will see what happens here. I have been told it will last better with the higher weight rating.

Now I have to look for a bed tire mount because the 285 won't fit underneath with the Mag-hytec cover in place... .

Saw a thing here that looks neat. click on other vehicles after you enter the site.

I just put Remington Wide Brutes on mine. 305-70R 16 They rub slightly when at steering lock. I had the Remingtion 285-75R016 with no clearance problems. I have been running Remingtons on all of my trucks since 84 and only had problems with one, and that was my fault.

I know a little something on the Wild Spirit tires. Wild Spirit is a renamed version of the Wild Countries, which in turn are made by Multi-mile which in turn are generic Goodyears. Wild Country/Wild Spirit DTX's are great mud tires that can rival BFG's IMO. I had the DTX's on my 88 Chevy and loved them. Bad part is that they need to be rotated often.

Depending on the roads you drive, I went ever other oil change, but that was on a gas truck. I think 5000 would best since, its about when we change the oil in the CTD's.

Thats what I have been doing with the BFG's I had. Had real even wear..... only about 40K though... ...

I drove a few mountain roads last night. handled well. some oversteer in some places, a little sluggish in others. Truck has a tend to settle straight and not wander so much as with the BFG's... . didn't feel squishy or wallowing just a good solid feel to it.

The tires sing a bit but funny thing is, you start to heat it just over 50 mph and is the loudest at 60, then near 70, it is quieter. Like a speed harmonic sound in the tires. Wierd... .

anyway, at 75,Actual, the RPM is like 2000 or just above. The switch has lowered the RPM about 100 going from 265 to 285 at speed.
