I have read many threads about different fuel pumps. I am looking at purchasing a fuel pump to install because I don't trust the stock lift pumps and I am also looking into purchasing a TST box in the near future. I am wondering what everyones opinions are as who has the best fuel pumps, such as, FASS, Walboro, Carter, etc. ? My other question is what is the benefit of the full FASS system with filtration compared to just the FASS pusher pumps? Everyone's input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks... ... . Jon

Personally I'm really happy with my Holley Blue pump. I don't know that it's "the best", but it sure is inexpensive.

If I had a lot more money, I'd probably have invested in one of the fancy expensive marine-grade pumps from Aeromotive or Holley.

Racor is doing one for the Ford that is a brushless motor should be bulletproof ,waiting for them to get it into the retail market.

What pump would you use to keep as a emergency spare in case of a lift pump failure?

I travel a lot in Baja and just want something that would get me home. If I should say, carry a Holley Blue Pump, what other parts would I need to do an on road installation? Thanks in advance.

after DC warrantied my lift pump with an in-tank (anemic) unit. I have ditched the banjos and added a mallory comp 140 #ad
.

The only reason I chose this unit is from past experience using it in boats and gassers. In those applications it has been 100% without failure.

in my boat (No problems for over 10 years of hard use. ) the intake for the pump is 12' x 3/8" away from the tank feeding 900CFM on top of a 455. alot like our issues.

Only time will tell.

Ive had the FASS 95/150 installed since 163,000 miles and now Im at 189,000. Been on some long road trips and pulled alot of weight in the last 26,000 miles. I like the 4 year unlimited miles warranty. If needed I can easily replace the unit myself. If you do not have the in-tank upgrade you can go to your local Cummins dealer and get you another factory style pump. My last 3 factory "behind the fuel filter" pumps I got over 100,000 miles on each of them. My in-tank pump went out twice in 20,000 miles.

but then again opinion are like arm pits..... we all have them and most of them stink.

The newest FASS pumps are also brushless and are expected to last 6 to 800,000.

I bought the FASS because of it reliability but I could switch back over to my factory pump in 15 minutes in the side of the road if I had too.

The hi perf electric pumps for gassers have not lasted very long historically, maybe 30-40K. I know theres probably exceptions out there and I hope all those that use them have better luck.

Now your talkin'

You guys might want to talk to Fass about the pumps being brushless. Their guy on the boards said that it does still have brushes but the outside access caps have been removed to make it a sealed motor and they use a leaf type spring now versus a coil type.

On edit. Look here, post 19.

All riiiiight another maintenance free item on the market , that will stop me from buying it.

If you buy a Fass, remember to use registered mail to send in your warranty card. Because if they do not have the card they will turn down any warranty claim even though you have the orginal invoice. That is what happen to me.

I did not use registered mail to send in my card they said they don't have it toooooo baaad!

Oh no, you don't understand. You don't have to fix them!!

It's like the non-greaseable joints we are blessed with.

The mallory is rebuildable and the mallory people are helpful. I actually spoke to a real unrecorded person there!!

jnelson,I think I will just purchase a spare pump from Cummins. I heard Dodge will not sell you one. Do you have the Cummins part #? Thanks.

This was the main reason that I decided to go with the Walbro pump instead of the FASS. For an extra $109 (eBay) I carry a spare Walbro GSL-392, and could swap it out in 15 minutes using a couple of nutdrivers.

So far the Walbro pump has exceeded my expectations. I installed mine before Gypsyman came out with is his kits. Install pics are in my Reader's Rigs gallery.

No disrespect to your Richard but the guy on the other board is just plain wrong. Check out the FASS literature. You can also do on-line research on brushless motors regarding how they work and how to recognize one (like I did).

No offense taken at all. :D Dan works for them so I assumed he knew what he was talking about. That's all.

Carrying a factory spare is a good idea. I have the 04. 5 with the pump at the filter. Wonder which one that is? I know Dodges fix is to "bless" me with the new in-tank pump but I don't want one in my 60 gallon Aero tank. This K-O pump has me thinking... anybody see it? Here:

The pump you're referring to is known as the RASP. Check out the link referred to as well as the testimonials in that link for some insights.

I'm constantly amazed that so many people (read that as those who have been members of the TDR for 30, 60, 300, ???? posts and lord knows how many years) seem to be unaware of this pump. No more worries; the factory pump as a backup because it's now in parallel to the RASP should you ever need it; it'll chew up normal debris that might be in your fuel which then gets filtered out through the normal fuel filter; no brushes to wear out; no motors to burn out; no fuses to pop; if the engine is turning the pump is pumping; if the belt that drives the pump should fail (highly unlikely but - you know) you're back on the factory pump until you replace the belt which you do at your leisure (5 minutes if you have a clue and maybe 10 if you don't); no other filters to deal with, and... ... ... well, the list goes on.

There are a ton of RASP users out there. The reason you likely don't hear from them is they probably don't pay much attention to pump issues any longer 'cause they don't have any. For myself I guess it's because I don't understand why this "final fuel pump solution" is not final.

By the way - when my 06 arrives there'll be a RASP going in. I don't want to have to think about fuel pumps when I'm X miles away from home and with this system I know I won't have to.

Whatever you choose I hope you're as satisfied as I and, I have to assume, every other RASP user is. I say every other user because I've not read one post ANYWHERE that counters this observation. Can this be said of any other system out there?
