More future Mercedes diesel rumblings?

Questions About Motor Graders

Since this site is the reason I now own a Cummins, I wanted to get more opinions from everyone. I am looking at medium duty trucks and there is a plethera of motors available to use in them. Putting you bias aside for the Cummins, what would your top 3 choices be and why? Fuel economy, reliability, ease of rebuild, etc...

Mercedes, Isuzu, Detroit, Cat, International, etc...

(before you ask, if the medium duty can be had with the Cummins, of course my choice would be it)

well theres a thread around here about a mercedes powerd dodge that runs like a striped ape is what i think he said and ive heard from the big truckers that the mercades diesel is one of the best out there cat has been good for many years the cummins c series or the international detroit im not so sure about and izusu i wouldn't trust but thats mostly cause of the dmax anyways i hope that helps

I can put my Cummins bias aside easily. As little as i think of Navistars 6. 0 I agree with aseifworth about the DT466. I have alot of experience with them in the utility trcuks i have driven both on and off road. It is hard to imagine a better engine for its size. Of course it is an inline six.

Cat 3126

I had a 1999 Freightliner FL-70 single axle with a Cat 3126 7 speed trans and it just would not die and it got 8. 5 mpg

Thanks everyone. This is the info I was looking for. Please keep the comments coming. I won't bump the thread anymore as this is just looking for opinions. Take care and happy hauling.

My top 3 choices for diesel engines are, 1st, Cummins, 2nd, Cummins, 3rd, Cummins. The reasons for my top 3 choices are, fuel economy, reliability and ease of rebuilt. Has there ever been a better engine built, gas or diesel?

I am with ya Griz, but not all Medium duties come with them available. Just fishing on the others that are available.

They really are an economical,reliable and durable engine.

Diesel engines

Well I have a 99 24V that no one including cumins in Surrey BC can /could help me fix so with a possablity of hauling crude oil in AB the engine I would get would be CAT POWERed. Of course with the miles on it now ( having to of suffered with it for the hours that I have had to endure behind the wheel )(I will advertize for them and it will all be "the TRUTH" ) no one wants to touch it. :-{} :-{} :-{}
