I was leaving my office Monday evening and was carrying some trash out and decided to start my truck and let it be warming up while I walked back to the dumpster. As I walked back up to the truck I noticed a loud tapping sound, kinda like when a lifter is stuck in a gasser, just as I leaned in to the front fender it started fading away and after a few seconds it was gone.

This morning when I started the truck up for the first time I stood outside and listened, after 30 to 40 seconds it started tapping again and lasted about 30 seconds before it went away.

Truck has about 11,500 miles on it so it is still under warranty. Oil level is ok and the truck seems to be running just fine.

Looking for opinions from you guys with years of diesel experience, thanks.

I think we just hear more noises now that the clatter is reduced so much. My '03 QC has a sound like you describe sometimes but now with 70k miles on it, it still hasn't matured into a real problem. My other two do not make the same noise

Set your parking brake. Raise your hood. Put your truck in gear and bring rpms up towards 1800. If the noise gets scary, you may have a bad injector like I had.

What?? What did you say?? (Clatter Clatter Rattle Rattle)

We poor ole deaf 2nd generation folks can't understand why you "girlie diesel" guys worry about all these sissy little noises. ;) :D :-laf
