Hi all.

Through a chain of events, I have an extra truck sitting in front of my house. It's an '04 dually. I am starting to research options for local hauling to at least pay for the truck. I say local because I have too much going on to be gone for a couple days.

I'm in a good shipping region. I have Pace Trailer's plant and several large distribution plants located five minutes from my house. I'm only two hours out of Vegas, so runs there and back would be a breeze.

I am a complete newbie at all this, so all suggestions are welcome. Let me change that, I'm not very animal experienced, so I would rule that out. I'm not looking to get rich, or even have this be my primary means of supporting my family (yet). I'm just looking to supplement enough to meet all expenses of the truck.

TIA

Hard to do if you just want to do it part time and legally. Maybe you can find someone to lease under for weekend trips, I am not sure (?)

Check out the middle column on my page here http://xj.cdevco.net/ under "To do" list. I still havea bit of updating to do. This would be mainly if you are going to work for yourself and get your own authority.

Where are you ? I run out of Kingman a lot and there are a few things there. Box trailers. Cabinets. Cars out of Vegas. Do you have a trailer and what kind. Some private folks need travel trailers relocated, but if you don't live by a plant forget the new ones. Most manufacturing plants will be open to talking with you if they need help. Large junk ya;rds might be a lead for delivery of bulky parts, motors, trannys, axles, etc. There are places in southern Idaho that sell hay for $2-3 per bale and the going rate in Kingman now is $8-10 Buy it and haul it in and sell it to feed stores, etc. R C

I haul horses down there a lot and have often thought about taking a load of hay to Pheonix instead of horses.

Local Hauling

Anything you could ever want to know about getting authority, or leasing to a company as well as insurance and liscense requirement can be found at OOIDA.com Owner Operators and Independent Drivers Assoc. The small trucking support equivalent of TDR :) If there is a trailer plant near by, cruise in and look at who is loading up, ask if they are leasing trucks etc. Sometimes the shortest runs are the hardest to get covered because the guys making their living in the truck can't do it without some miles. Just a thought. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am in St. George, Utah right next to the Pace trailer plant. I naturally thought of hauling a load of trailers down to Vegas and returning with cars for the local dealers. Problem is Pace starts everyone off doing their Home Depot runs. Who knows where they will end up going.

Presently I have two cargo trailers and a 14k gooseneck. It would not be a problem to pick up something else (like a wedge)for the right opportunity.

What to Haul

Wrecked to salvage buyers is not too bad. If your gooseneck will haul 2 at a time it will pay better. I have hauled out of B & E Auction in Henderson and Copart in No. Las Vegas. Some of the guys just show up and let it be known they have open space for todays sale. Many of the buyers are repeat and once you know them they will call you up. Some fellas I know in Ca do it for a living. Pay is somewhat negotable. R C
