Got suggestions, reccommendations?

See, I've been trying to get reservations in state parks all weekend. Everything's full (no surprise... but, due to various circumstances, this could not be planned when it should have been - 4 months ago)... SOOO, if you have any suggestions we can take a travel trailer and 5 kids, and do nothing but play for a few days, I'm all ears. Gonna leave Sat AM for Silverwood in Idaho, and then head west. Anywhere in WA is OK, and at least the upper half of the OR coast is ok as well. The southern part is too far to drive for the time we have.

I assume you've tried most of the State Parks, using your online search. It's going to be pretty difficult to find reservations, with hook-ups. If you haven't tried Ft. Stevens State Park, give them a shot. Big park, lots of spaces, but again, it will be pretty hard finding a hook-up spot, without reservations being made long ago.

There is a nice private park located at Cannon Beach (RV Resort at Cannon Beach, 800-847-2231) that you might have some luck with. Good sites, with hook-ups, and a swimming pool for the kids. It's across the road from the beach area, but you can drive about 2 miles south and take the kids to Tolovanna Park. Great beach for walking, kites, etc.

Good luck... ;)

The family and I were just in Silverwood and then to the ocean ourselves. There are two State campgrounds about two miles apart near Westport. One is in Grayland and the other is closer to Westport called Twin Harbors or something like that. The one in or nearest Grayland is the nicest and you can walk to the beach from it and the beach is not very crowded. The Twin Harbors campground is not as nice but damn close to the beaches, a short distance from a convenience store/gas station (with diesel), and only 2-3 0r 4 miles from the docks in Westport. On a Sunday the Grayland campground was full by late afternoon but the other campground was nearly empty.

Let me know if you want more info on the Westport area.

Power Wagon check out, Bar View Jetty County Park It`s 1 mile north of Garibaldi Or. or about 7 miles north of Tillamook Or. It has lots of camping spots and quite a few hook up spots. You can call 503-322-3477 and see about reservations. It`s really a nice park for kids it`s big and lots of places for them to run there hearts out. The Beach is a short walk away ( just far enough so your camping out of the wind) and theres a Jetty to fish off of or walk out on and get wet from the splashing waves. In Garibaldi theres a fishing Pier and you can rent Crab Rings and get Crabs fishing from the pier. They use to be $5. 00 a day per ring. It`s a Great Place, the wife and I use to take the Kids there all the time.

Twin Harbors (near Westport) is a State Park (reservations thru Reservations NW). They have full hookups. Haven't stayed there, but most of these parks, in this area, cater to charter fisherman, and are not really great places for family play...

RJOL is correct in that the parks I identified do not have playgrounds but are okay places to stay very close to the beach which is where my kids want to be. Also close to many other things to do too. These parks are not KOA's or Yogi Bear Campgrounds. But they are as nice as the area has to offer.

RJOL Yes it says County Park in it`s name and that`s what it is. And yes I know what it says in the Book but they started taking Reservations last year in the summer time. You don`t have to have one but if you want to be sure you have a space it`s best you make one. Thank you RJOL 503-322-3522 is the Park Ticket Office and 503-322-3477 is the County Parks Office your number is a new one.

You might try "Beverly Beach state Park" North of Newport, also Beachside State Park- South of Waldport, also Tillicum Beach Campground (USFS ) but a nice park. also Check out Devil's Lake State Park in Lincoln City. Also "Cape Lookout State Park" near Tillamook. . good luck

:)

On a trip to Lynden Wa. Last week, (5 miles or so from Canadian border), we stopped at Dash Point State park near Federal Way Wa. No reservations allowed, but when we got there about 3 PM, there were several spaces available.

We were actually on our way to Salt Water State park near DesMoins (sp) Wa. (both about 25 miles south of Seattle) when we got lost, well not really lost----but mighty confused, and stumbled on to Dash Point. Before finding Dash Point, we called Salt Water and while they could not take reservations, they too had several open spaces at about 2;30 PM.

SUCCESS!!!

Thanks to some helpful pointers...

I got Tuesday through Friday night at Twin Harbors, near Grayland, WA.

I REALLY wanted Fort Stevens, or Pacific Beach, or Fort Canby, or Devil's Lake, or Cape Lookout. Nothing available in any of them.

Oh, well. At least this way, I get to make a stop by some of the NW Bombers on my way over.

Thanks so much for your help, and I hope that next time we get to visit some of the places you all mentioned.
