I am stuck in the middle of Iraq for a while yet, plenty of time to think!! I have decided to reward myself with a new CTD when I get back. My question is this: what kind of a price are you guys paying for trucks that were ordered by yourself compared to ones sitting on the lot??? I know I can get what I want (3500, SRW, SB, 4X4, 6sp) for about $32,000 sitting on the lots back home right now. Is it that much more to order and get exactly what you want? I realize those prices I was seeing were probably including the incentives that are ending pretty quick here. Thanks for your input.

Jesse: You should be able to order at the same price or less than trucks on the lot because dealers don't have to pay to "floor plan" a vehicle special ordered for a customer. You should be able to buy at or somewhat below dealer invoice and keep any rebates in effect at the time. Try to work from dealer invoice, not MSRP.

Jesse,

First of all - Thank you for your service to our country! I just ordered an '05 BECUASE I could not find an '04. 5 set-up like I wanted it. The ONLY down side to this, is that I will not get the $2,500 rebate the '04's have, but DC currently has a $1000. 00 rebate on the '05's, pluse there have been a few changes (at least with auto trucks from what I have read). Good luck!

I want to second the thanks for your service to our country. Next, Just bring back a few hundred barrels of oil with you and barter with the dealer for the truck of your dreams.

On your way home , also bring all the US soilders home with you. . I say "F&%K all those third world counrtys" Let them kill themselfs. We have enough things to worry about here. We should lock our borders and spit on everyone that trys to enter our GREAT NATION.

Sledneck, Not trying to turn this into a political thread, but if you aren't full blooded native American, than your own relatives "invaded" a land that technically belonged to someone else. I'm not saying to open wide the borders, but even scripture says, "To whom much is given, much is required... " We've got an awesome country and have been blessed more than anyone else in the world and then we want to keep it all to ourselves. Come on, what if all our fellow TDR members would keep to themselves about the deals and improvement they come accrossthat help us (including you) with our trucks. You'd probably say that it would be a little selfish... same concept... IMHO

By all means order the one that you really want!

Before doing so, go to Edmond's web site and copy down the dealer cost of each item on your list. When you add them up (and include the "Transportation Charges") and then apply the "holdback", you'll know the true "invoice" from which to dicker.

Doing this will save you a lot and, when your custom-built tuck arrives, it'll have your name on the window sticker. :D

Jesse

Even if you wait till first the year when you return to the U. S. A. to order

or to buy off alot some were I found doing my so called homework I was well

informed when I bought mine minus a couple of comfort items, I'll first tell you

find a good dealer you can trust and work with ease in all aspects of the deal because if you have warranty issues its like a marriage you got to work through the issues that might arrise after taking delivery thats how mine went, I'll also tell you that buying after new model is intro'd you might have to pay for something that is new but it's not always the case just make sure you get all the discounts offered at the time buying off lot or ordering I bought mine at invoice minus rebates only haggled for more freebees than

offered up frount. :) :) :)

If you like what they can get then I would not bother ordering unless you like to watch paint dry. It took almost 13 weeks for my truck, not sure if I would order again.

Thanks for all the replies, sorry about the delay in getting back, this war thing tends to mess with internet time!!!!

Sounds like I will probably be ordering one when I get back.

Nice point RMcCulloch about having your name on the window sticker!

One other question: how much hassle do you get when you purchase a vehicle somewhere else and then bring it into your local dealer for warranty issues????

Jesse,

I also want to say thanks for serving! I served nine years in the AirForce as a firefighter and went over to the sand box 3 times. One thing I remember is that we were able to order vehicles through AAFES (Army/AirForce Exchange Service) at lower than invoice prices. No dealers involved, just had the vehicle shipped to the closest port to where you lived. By port I meen large metro area. I'm sure that if you email AAFES or DC they would be able to tell you more. If you are unable to find anything out let me know and I will personally find out for you. Thank you again, and stay safe.

Brent

Thanks Brent,

the AAFES option is one I am looking into. I had a friend check on a Harley through them but it ended up being less than $500 savings from the local dealer back home. I will check to see if there will be a better deal on the new Dodge.

A person has to see this place in person to realize what it is really like!!!

I was over there in the 70's,unless you have been there you have no idea what it's like. At least you will have lot's of storys to tell that your friends won't believe, keep your head down. Stay safe!!

Jesse,

I just wanted to say "Thanks" to you and everyone serving with you! My family and I really appreciate what you do to make this country the best place in the world to live. Thanks to all for keeping us safe! Oo. ;) :)

Jesse,

do check again on the AAFES info. When I was over there I almost bought a Harley at a considerable savings. If I remember correctly, there was no tax or other fees. Although there was only a Harley rep present, you could order almost any vehicle. A little research may save you some bucks. Stay safe and good luck.

I haven't had any problems - of course, taking a truck with Texas plates into a N. Minnesota dealership usually results in a bit of extra conversation. :)

The people at the local dealership down here are all too happy to do Warranty Work - it pays better if they can work faster. [A mechanic can rack up 12 working hours in an 8-hour shift thanks to "book" time requirements. ]
