O.K PE 4200 and -8An Fuel lines are in But .....

Steering Wheel Control of OD,EB,TC Lock

... was hoping that your starter problems wouldn't affect a low-humidity Nevada truck... . 120K miles, and starter that's begun going "THUNK" but not cranking until gone thru 4-6 "THUNK" noises... .

Hope they arrive soon... (I ordered the whole thing---plunger/both contacts)... . rm

Spoke with somebody there today about my hard starting problem. He seemed to not think the contacts were my problem, but said I should probably throw 'em in there whenever money allow being over 150K on the odometer:D

I'm all over "super easy!"... . 'cause I can, indeed, snatch "difficult" from the jaws of "easy", and can convert "hard" to "impossible/unrecoverable"... ... must be all the hardheaded Germans, and somewhere, probably at least one Pole in my family tree... . :)

It's done!!!

although I can't claim "30-minute" job, due to exorbitant amount of time spent wrench-searching, wrench-dropping, starter-rasslin' ,etc. the contact-change job was actually quite easy. did the plunger, too. that "ball" that you warned about? I never saw it... It's at the far end of that skinny spring, I presume? That upper starter mounting bolt is a major PITA to locate and then apply enough torque to remove!!... I used 3 short extensions on the ratchet, the 10mm 12-point socket, and a short cheaterbar on the ratchet handle... only to find that the "slop" was taken up just about the time I either hit the frame or the front diff... . Solution: Jack up the frame a bit, while leaving the tires solidly on the ground, thereby allowing a bit more clearance over the diff...

All in all, if they last decently, I'd say "good product"! :)

All Hail LarryB!! King of copper stuff!

Throw a drunk Irish in the gene pool, and we have the same handicap!! :-laf

I have 90K on the 98, and 150+K on the 1990, guess I should do some ordering. :D

I think LarryB introduced his contacts about a month too late.

I had the thunk-thunk problem too with the 1995 (95,000 miles). Since Larry hadn't advertised his contacts, and since I'm waaaay too cheap to buy a $400-500 starter without a fight, I took my solenoid apart and cleaned the factory contacts with fine (400-600 grit) sandpaper and spray contact cleaner.

It's working so far, but the next time, I'm installing Larry's parts. Maybe I should order some, just in case.

Have I found another cousin?
