Looking to make the switch from Ford but need some info. My plan is to order an HO from NV and then register it in a relatives name until it has 7501 miles then finally register it in CA (@ AAA) in my name. Does anyone see any problems with this? Is there a time limit along with the mileage rule for keeping it out of state?

Finally don't really know if I should go with the 6spd or the 48RE. This truck will definitely be bombed in the future and occasionally tow a 15,000lb toy hauler.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Mojo, I'm hoping to do the same thing in a few months. I haven't heard of any "catches" to the plan but who knows. I also go back and forth between the auto and the 6 speed but I think I am going to try the auto this time. Good luck.

so ya got tired of Scotty blowing your doors off Eh..... LOL

as to your question. . I've BTDT... do you see lots of CHP in your area. . are they aware of you... cause ya don't want to have them pull you over after a few months and have a Calif. drivers licence in your pocket and a nevada plate... .

best way to get around that is to have your relatives name on the registration also. . ala mojo and relative at their address... then if you have to your can do a dual registration for both states [more expensive but you get a 49 state rig]

do not mount the plate for a long time. . have it in your center section though.

also Carson City Dodge is good to work with. . they do not see all the "improvements".....

yeah maybe. I'll keep the Ford through the summer though so I can pull against him again. Little more experience under my belt now... probably why I'm switching to Dodge!

I don't think the CHP will give me too much trouble, I know most of them on a pretty good level. I know that I could get 7500 miles on it real quick, probably before the plates even arrive, that's why I was wondering if there's a time limit. Either way it will be in someones name until I can register it in CA.

Originally planned on placing the order in Carson City or Reno but someone mentioned Vegas as well... well see. Thanks, Brandon
