Someone mentioned to me that the organic material used in the A518 might be the reason for 1st gear/ launch shudder. Any feedback? Also, could the front spring sag cause a change in angle for the drive shaft that creates this shuddering feel? My transmission feels strong, and I have to keep my foot on the brake when stopped or I move foward/even on an incline. Thanks for any info...

Your front springs wont change your driveline angle, just the angle of inclination overall.

It sounds like you may need to bump your idle speed down to the 700-750 range if it is pushing you. There may be some other internals that aint quite right, either. How fast can you get goin if you let it go on its own on the flat? When I owned Mom's, it'd get up to 25mph on its own. Idle was set at about 900, though.

Daniel,

I don't think it'll do 25 but there is definantly some push in forward just sitting at idle... Don't think that the pump or the timing has ever been advanced. Looks to be in the stock position from what I can tell. Thanks for the reply

drive line shudder

check your drive shaft angles are correct. Be sure you are using the correct ATF ! If all of those are correct. Warped clutch plates and steel disc's are most likely your your problem... It will cause the creeping and shuddering problem. . I have seen it many many times... . Over heating the clutch packs is what causes this... Low hyd. pressure is what causes the the packs to slip and over heat...

A clogged trans filter will do it also

good luck. .

ATF+, probably ATF+III or IV by now. My old truck gets the cheap dextron fluid like the FSM calls for on the very early trucks but I don't use it because that's what the FSM calls for, I use it because it is cheap and the thing leaks like a sieve. Chrysler really pushes for the use of ATF+ and it does shift different with it, I would use it unless your dumping fluid in nearly as fast as it leaks out... ;)
