Anyone know if it is possible to take the 3rd Generation Cummins along with the 48re or 6 speed transmission and drop them into other vehicles? It seems like you could cobble together a real nice classic vehicle by doing that and I'd love to have a '68 Lincoln or '75 half-ton made of real metal that was powered by the diesel.
Along those lines I also thought it would be cool if Chrysler brought back the Imperial as a full sized luxury car/limousine and powered it with the 5. 9 diesel. I've seen stretch Excursion limos that were diesel-powered, and Mercedes have been diesel since before I was born. Other than hood compartment size and engine height what would be the key concerns or obstacles in doing so?
Oh, yeah... if they did bring back the Imperial with a diesel they'd have to go all out by using real wood in the dash, all metal grills and chrome, minimal cheap plastic on the interior and go retro with the old sofa-style seats. I bet they could sell it for between $50K and $60K and embarass a lot of the other luxury car manufacturers (I laughed when I saw what passed for luxury in the new Lincoln Town Car). I told my dealer that I would have gladly paid a $2000-$3000 more for my truck if they offered a Deluxe Materials Package for it and he expressed surprise. Either DC thinks along different lines than I do when it comes to design, or their focus groups are far more focused on price than quality.
