other CTD websites

How many of you are registered at one of the "other" CTD sites? I surf on over to other sites that SEEM to compete with the TDR and can't help but ask WHY? Why would someone need a site other than our humble gathering place?



I would like to believe there is room for everyone here on the TDR, from you psycho bombers laying down 600hp+ to those of use who are relatively knew to diesels.



Example: one member took the time to explain to an (obvious) newcomer the difference between a transfer case and a differential with respect to fluid changes. ON this very site, we also see some VERY technical stuff that only a handful of the members understand.



The point is that "it takes all kinds" and we HAVE all kinds right here.



I can't help but think that TDR-like websites only result from someone trying to reinvent the wheel. Maybe also from a personal agenda or falling out or something. Who knows. .



I would like to think that if we positioned the TDR as THE ONE SINGLE representative of the Cummins Dodge ownership, we would have a lot of clout. Imagine what that could do--- a recall to have dealers replace the whole crappy stock fuel delivery system, or maybe factory gauges! In the end, we would help DC help us.



I guess I have something of a vision. I imagine a time when every salesman at a dealer tells a customer about the TDR when they are looking at the trucks. I imagine never having to run into a CTD owner who hasn't heard of the TDR, doesn't know what the CTD is capable of, and doesn't know that his lift pump is probably dead just because it wants to be.



Current stats show just over 14000 TDR members. If they have sold OVER 850, 000 of these trucks, then where are all the other owners??? It appears that we represent less than 1/30th of the CTD ownership body. Maybe all it needs is a little more time.



My TDR membership has exponentially increased the joy I get in owning my CTD Ram. The knowledge, help, and sense of community that the TDR provides is priceless.



Maybe they should at that to the sticker price of a new CTD Ram, like the MasterCard Commercials:

I'll bet the $35 has a lot to do with why the other free sites keep going.



Of the 850,000 CTD owners I imagine a very large percent don't own computers or just use them for business. Probably another large chunk of owners are farmers, ranchers and construction oriented who use their trucks for work, have more than enough power and few problems. They really aren't truck enthusiasts, trucks are just part of their life. Just like I have a bunch of used for work JD tractors but don't visit any tractor forum sites even though many are out there.



Seems like a lot of the folks here use their trucks more like a car, going to work, errands etc. They have trucks because they want them, not because they need them. That could be what divides an enthusiast who would enjoy this site and a person whose truck is just another tool and has no desire to be here.



I also wonder about the 15k members, there are many folks in the members list that I know haven't been members for a year or more. Don't think those members ever get subtracted because it will mess up the archives.

You hit the nail on the head illflem. Take my sister in laws husband. I call him pig boy cause thats what he does raise hogs for the market. His dad did it and him and his brother took over the family hog farm and he has since split from his brother to go it along. I think they,still do:-{} quite a bit. He don't even know what a puter is till his daughter started going to UT and needed one. Don't read the paper. Goes home at lunch eats and listens to the market report on the radio. Lays down and takes him a map gets up and then back to them hogs. His hogs are about a 1/4 mile from his house and they are right across the highway from my place. He always drove fords. When I had my 91 they kinda seen what the cummins will do. His mother brought my 91 do use around the farm and they were always bragging about how it would pull. He had a few ford diesels and finally bumped his head and got him a dodge 01 and traded it on a 03 4dr 4x4. There are a few dodges/cummins around here. A few of the fellows used to be ford men but they came on over to the dodge/cummins. And I doubt it they have any puters either and don't know what the TDR is. As if they would take the time to read it. I keep dropping hints but these people are hard headed. There country -aint never been no where -aint going no where. It would be nice if the dealers would give a free subscription to the TDR when they bought a truck. And the 91 is still going. Got a few dents in the body but its still going.

I tend to agree with IllFlem. . .



I bought my truck because I wanted a CTD. Grew up on a farm around a lot of John Deere diesels, even had a chevy diesel once. Nice truck but certainly no CTD. People always ask me why I have such a big truck or what do I haul with it. I have the truck because I like it and can afford it. Don't haul anything with it. Sometimes the Roll and Lock cover will go weeks and not be opened. I haul myself and tell people that I haul anything I want in it.



I read the TDR at least 4 or 5 times a week. Rarely ever post. But certainly have learned far more than subscription fee over the last year and a half.



This is the best commuter car I have ever had

That Other site ,was started by a fellow that started this site a few years back . A falling out of some folks and he left and started the Other site . Ron in Louisville KYOo. Oo. Oo.

As posted above I was only looking for a truck to haul my snowmobiles and 4 wheelers to the cabin on weekends.

I had owned a 1500 Ram with a 360 cid. and got a little tired of the fuel bill. So I decided to try a diesel and my brother works for DC so the $6,000 off the sticked made me get the CTD.

I went to automotive school in the early 80's but I had not even changed the oil on one of my cars/trucks in a least ten years, until finding the TDR.

Now, if I can help it, I would not dream of having someone else work on my truck.

It also feels pretty good getting my hands dirty again!!

I do need help replacing my trans. So anybody in the Detroit metro area that knows how to do this I would be glad to pay for the help!! ( I'm not equipped for this!)

I'm itching to make that call to DTT!!!

Hey Guuuuuuuys, I’m a farmer, last count we had 3 P4 laptops, 2 P3’s, an AMD, couple of old 486’s, hardwired network, Linux server box, assorted desktops, most with W2K Pro, scanners, burners and the such scattered amongst the hog dust here at the old farm abode. Workin on a 2 way satellite since we have no other way to access real bandwidth. We do some web design, Dreamweaver, Flash, PhotoShop, Fireworks. Handle purchasing and Data Services online. By gosh fellers, I even googled into TDR that way. Any hows boyz, weze ain’t all hicks out here!

The TDR could be the one site for all truck owners and lets say, oh I dunno, FORD will build our 1 truck for everyone!!





Everybody has different ideas on how the site should be run. Some disliked the way it was run, so they left.





Sounds like the North vs the South, almost.
