We have received requests from a number of users to not have the posts in the Other forum show up when you click on "View New Posts" or "Get Last Days Posts" options. We can see both sides of the coin as there are people that do not wish to read the stuff in the other forum (and the primary purpose for the site is the truck or diesel information) and there are also people that like to read all the posts. There isn't an option in the forum software to allow this, but I can make a change in the code to turn off the other forum in those searches. If I do that then if you want to read the other forum stuff then you would have to specifically click on the other forum to see them. I can disable the Other forum in one or both of those options. I personally don't use either function, I simply go through each forum. Since this is a user preference - let us know what you'd prefer.

That would be welcomed news to me. It would make for a better web site and possibly keep our knowledge base

from jumping ship.

We pay to be at this site and are quite fortunate to

learn from the masters , that have , a business, customers, and very little free time to devote to scrolling over useless crap to answer our pleas for help.

They are also accessing our site to keep pace with the direction the REGISTRY is moving, I personaly am embarrassed

going to the site to show someone how well it works and seeing the garbage. If it does not get under control now you will be asking the " How many pounds of Human Waste guy " how to redo your govenor .

I would like to think about the site being top notch like it was a while back. There are 30,000 newsgroups for the "thread starters" .

I have to give the moderator credit because I am sure

he has been at odds on how to approach this problem.

I vote to remove the OTHER posts from being automatic

I have NO particular opinion on the currently available poll choices - but DO very much wish the "Top poster" and "Top thread starter" was eliminated - it seems to encourage some here to engage in threads and posts of VERY little value - and LESS than valuable to this as a turbo-diesel related board... I think MOST of us come here for good info on diesel related issues - we CERTAINLY have LOTS of available options for jokes, gross or other tasteless subjects on the internet - we DERN SURE don't need to comer HERE to be exposed to them! :(

Only way I surf the TDR now days is to click on "View New Posts" link. I like the fact that it has other in it, or else I'd miss it completly. Why can't these people just skip those threads, pretty easy really, just like I skip over the "First Gen" threads.

How would getting rid the the other in these searches keep our knowledge base?

WELL, it's sorta like the example I used over in another thread - would you rather walk in the dark thru a well populated cow pasture - littered with you-know-what, or a nice clean and level park where you aren't REQUIRED to step over or dodge piles of stuff you don't want to be soiled with...

There's PLENTY of places featuring foolishness, "humor" and grossness - we don't even have to PAY to get there - so why encourage it HERE, where we DO have to pay for the privelege?

Remember, this is about expression of members personal choice on some aspects of board operation - I respect yours - please do the same for me...

Andrew I agree with you, I do the same thing.

Gary,

Isn't that what boots are for? ;) Did I say something to offend? Sorry if I did. :(

I hear your opinion and totally disagree with everything you are saying. I do not think our members are so mentally lazy that they can't decide what threads they want to read, other or other wise :-{}

Good point Andrew,

Agreed, some of the posts are rather silly and have no point, thats why it's called "the other fourm", I skip right over them and on to the next, simple as that.

IMO, we need a "cryin' and whinin' " fourm, for all the guys who have nothin' better to do.

After reading here for awhile, you get to know who you can trust, and who's a windbag, regaurdless of said "post count", besides there's no award for posting the most, so what does it matter?

Later, Rob

but DO very much wish the "Top poster" and "Top thread starter" was eliminated

I'll second that

Steve, what would really help is if "View New Posts" and"Get Last Days Posts" sorted on forum, then time.
That would make it nearly trivial for readers to skip over the Other forum.

For that matter, it wouldn't be *too* difficult to move the Other listing to the end after the sorting is done. Or perhaps perform two queries, one without Other then one with only Other.

I won't vote on the poll because I go through each forum individually, so I have no preference either way (I wouldn't even notice if those features vanished!) I prefer to read threads grouped by forum. Thus, if those buttons sorted by forum, then time, and had Other moved to the end, I might just consider using one or t'other.

I can seriously understand everyones point of view on this issue , I voted to remove "other " from both active topics and last days posts, I do agree that the reason we signed up for the TDR is for info and expertiese, we all have one thing in common here and that is Dodge and Cummins and I think we should keep it that way. I also get in squirley moods as it keeps me happy, that is when I like to view or post corney threads. I guess if someone chooses to go to the other catigory then they will have to muddle thru the time wasting posts or just dont open them up.

One thing to keep in mind is there is also some fun or corneyness being had on all threads in all catigories so where do we draw the line ... ... ... maybe we could get avitars beside our name again that says 'Fun Guy" or Cranky Old Fart" so we can know before we get sent to the principals office .

Question , didnt I see a place to click so you can put a guy on the ignor list ? I never messed with it before but does it make it so you dont see any of that guys threads or replies ???

Just a side note; I have received private messages from many other members on serious issues dealing with our common goal of making our trucks better , they do know that I have a serious and devoted side to me and our common goal, I never try to pull anyones leg when it comes to our trucks... ... ... ..... YUP - unfortunately, it WON'T filter out forum moderators - and that was ONE *I* wanted to put a filter on!

And it's unfortunate if a member DOES get to the point where he has to decide whether a given individual is better left on the "view" list because of his ocassional GOOD stuff, or TOSSED because of perceived more frequent BS posts...

And for whatever it's worth, there WAS a very good Camaro board I used to be a member of that was virtually DESTROYED by a virtual handfull of fellas FAR more interested in playing smart a$$ and posting lots of VERY off-the-wall stuff TOTALLY unrelated to Camaro issues - last time I cruised over that way, it was a virtual wasteland, devoid of the folks previously there who contributed LOTS of good stuff until they got disgusted and left...

Hate to see it happen HERE!

Is there a Full Moon out. Everyone seems so tense  Is this stuff the end of the world or even worth discussing? I like all of the stuff. Tech. , other, people that disagree with me and people that agree with me. I would never put any of you on an ignore list, that would speak poorly of me as a person, your all great people, you drive CTD's. Change it anyway the majority wants it to change, I can work with it and enjoy reading all of the threads and posts that interest me :D

Leave it alone except maybe take off the top post starter stuff. There are several forums I dont have a lot of interest in and I dont find it a hardship to glance at the forum a topic is in and ignore it if that forum is not of interest. Please leave all forums intact in the search for new posts. Its kinda like watching TV if you dont like whats there dont look. As far as content quality goes most of the low qaulity posts do seem to be in the Other forum so dont look there but dont try to censor what the rest of us see.

Keywords being-------- COMMON GOAL

The 'OTHER' threads are not the informational ones but they are by far the most entertaining. It's the mix that keeps me coming back.

I read as many others as I do Diesel/Ram related threads.

Leave then in the new posts I like the quick summary.

Seems to me, a key issue not fully understood or discussed, is the fact there is a BIIIIG difference between a "other" category intended for non-diesel subjects such as your favorite baseball team, where you like to go for vacation and such - and a freer, potentially offensive "anything goes" forum that too often degenerates into the sorta stuff we really wouldn't want our other family members to see.

I have no problem with an "other" forum that keeps subject material clean and above board - representing the members of this board and it's operators in a light of decency and responsibility...

ON the other hand, if members here - and the board administrator ultimately decide that it is to become "anything goes" - well, I'm sure *I* can find LOTS of off-color stuff to "amuse" the masses...

Is that what most of us REALLY want? It certainly seems to be what a FEW want!

I dont think "anything goes " is something that any of us want. Most of us try to be somewhat discreet about the nature of our posts and a few still need to figure out whats funny and what isnt. Removing any part of the TDR Forums because of immature posts by a few would be a loss to all of us. If someone regulary is offensive there are options in place to deal with that as has been done in the past. If you personally have a problem with a persons posts DONT READ THEM but dont try to restructure TDR because of it. Its pretty cool the way it is so dont let a few irresponsible yoyo,s dictate changes.

My two cents and one post closer to the free coffee maker

I've come to the conclusion that Americans are spoiled by convenience. What is so hard about just ignoring the Other forum, or the links to the posts. It doesn't require a whole lot of physical, or even mental effort. I can see it now. Sooner or later somebody is gonna complain cause the mouse doesn't click for them on the topic that they first think about.

Don't laugh, I work in this field and I am amazed at what people expect a stupid machine to do for them.
