Backed into a light post pedestal that didn't have a light post on it at a downtown parking lot yesterday. I hate driving downtown, even in little old Tucson.

That sucks! I did the same thing, only twice in two weeks. Different posts each time. The wife and I were going to dinner for our anniversary and I decided to back into a parking spot but didn't see the concrete post that was only sticking three feet out of the ground. That dented the driver's side of the rear bumper.

A couple weeks later I was backing out of a tight spot and ran over a piece of angle iron sticking about three feet out of the ground. That took care of the passenger side. I didn't break the chrome plating loose, just put a nice crease on both sides of the bumper.

I've seen them on ebay for around $250. I need one myself. I can't see the dang parking meters over the tailgate. :D

I've been hoping to find someone with new buckstops or something that would be willing to part with the factory bumpers cheap just to get them out of the way.

I wouldn't bother replacing it, except that I can't drop the tailgate all the way because it hits the bumper. :(

Maybe XcumminsX will sell me his?

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT REPLACE

Your Bumpers... ..... Why you may ask????

They are CURSED... ... . I'll explain.

First of all this is my first new truck, so that might explain some of it!!

On the day we signed papers on the truck I backed into a concrete bumpered light pole.

Approx 3 months later, Someone backed into the bumper at the county fair.

About 9 months after purchase some punk kid in a Mazda parker RIGHT next to us, whips it into reverse cuts the wheel and slides right down the bumper with the side of his car being stopped only by the trailer hitch, moving the truck approx 12"..... (he flees the scene)... . BTW my wife was sitting in the passenger seat of the truck at the time.

Now just a few days ago a trailer (my own) jumps behind me while I am backing up, not only denting the bumper AGAIN but putting a nice slit in it.

So I believe Daimler has cursed these bumpers.

I agree. Add me to the list of cursed bumper owners. While gently backing up, a tree jumped out in back of my rig and caused quite a dent in the bumper.

On second thought, maybe they are not cursed but rather, made out of aluminum foil.

I crunched mine on my 2nd Gen, even tweeked the rear quarter panel a bit on a tree while 4 wheelin'. Took it to the body shop and found out that the insurance allowed a whopping $638. 00 for bumper and step pads. :{ I had the body shop order and install a Buckstop for $400. 00, and it left enought to cover the deductible. ;) The Buckstop won't bend as easy, trust me! :D

Well, on my 2002 Sport, a little under $500 for a primer bumper from my friendly Dodge dealer, then $200 at the body shop for paint. 2 low poles in a parking lot at an LSTDR meet - couldn't see them out of either the in-cab rear view or door mirrors. :{

Get an aftermarket bumper, why do you want to replace that aluminum foil bumper. do you think your never going to bump into anything again?

Same here, they are cursed, but the curse on mine is that I am getting worse and worse at backing up, or I guess have less patience.

The Dodge rear bumper is 2 parts the chrome cover, which is cheap and the flimsy, and the actual bumper frame/skeleton, whatever you want to call it. Problem with Buckstops are they are replacement covers and if you hit your bumper hard enough to bend it and the skeleton underneath, a buckstop isn't gonna help.

The most cost effective way, (cheapest) is a Luverne full replacement with the frame brackets and all. They come in Black or Chrome. Most off road shops can order you up one.

XcumminsX:

I think I'll take it. Is your truck an SLT?

BTW, I would consider getting a stout after-market bumper, but hesitate for two reasons: (1) I don't want to add any more weight than necessary to keep my towing numbers, and (2) I would be concerned about frame damage to the truck if the bumper did not absorb some of the impact the next time I do this.

 I agree! There is some wacky voo-doo stuff happening here!

I also backed into a post lower then the tailgate and dented the bumper. However, I opted to FIGHT BACK and ordered the BuckStop bumpers Front & Rear! ;)

Next time I'm takin' her down!!!!!!!

My point exactly! Just order one made from 1/4" steel! ;)

I think I'll stick with the stock bumper, but am considering changing the tailgate to a 5th wheel leuvered (sp) style so that I can see what's behind the truck. It will also make it easier to hook up the 5er. :)

Sorry to hear about your bumper klenger. That will ruin you day every time.

I almost backed over a Saturn last year at my kids school. I dropped him off and had to back up to get around the car in front of me. I checked the mirrors and saw nothing and started backing up. I heard honking and could not tell where it was coming from but I thought I should double check the mirrors. She had started to back up and that's when I saw her. She must have been right up against me.

One thing I have learned(after doing $1200 damage to my previous pickup on a tree stump) is to pull up to the spot I want back into and survey the area for any obstructions then turn and back in.
