I am going to order a truck tomorrow. The dealership quoted me $561 for out-the-door fees (registration, licensing, title, etc. ). This excludes sales tax. Is this fee reasonable? Is there anything I can do to reduce the fee? Like register/license the truck myself?

talk to tomeygun on here to get a good price or look up some of his threads he listed some prices of trucks on here.

I live in NY and bought my 2003 in Indiana because of a super deal. I had no out of door feen whatsoever. The dealer even gave me a Indianna 31 day license plate. My only fee once home was to pay NY sales Tax 7. 25%. Maybe your answer is to to the licensing your self and save ???

You might contact the DMV and find out how much it would cost to register/license your vehicle in your state. You can probably find out about title fees and such while you're at it. These things vary from state to state. Also, ask the dealer exactly what fees are included in the $561. It seems a lot of dealers throw in a "Documentation Fee" for their paperwork. I've seen these as high as $125.

The only fees I had to pay last year was some sort of marketing fee or local advertising fee which no one can get out of. It's a line item on every invoice. Other than that there is nothing you have to pay outside of licensing and tax!!! When my sales guy was writing up my paperwork when the truck came in he tried to add $160 for one thing and $20 for something else and I just pointed to it and flatly stated "I'm not paying that" and he took it off without protesting.

I didn't have to pay any fees. I bought my truck in Ohio and registered it in Pennsylvania. Got an Ohio 30-day tag for $5. 50 with the truck.

Pennsylvania is a major pain in the butt with everything with motor vehicles. I think I ended up paying $100 extra to PA just to do the title and all the crap they had to do. They even made me get a brand new truck inspected! Plates cost me about $165. In Ohio they would have cost me about $60. For non-commercial in Ohio there is basically no limit to towing weigh, etc. In PA there are limits that are hard to live with.

Other than motor vehicle stuff, the two states are pretty close on everything. Pennsylvania does have better gun laws though! But now Ohio just passed a CCL, but so far it's a joke.

I am in the process of buying a truck in AZ and they want to charge me a 250 dollar doc. fee. Seems like a lot of extra money for some paper work:eek:

FEES

Thames;

GO else where you can do better. $250. 00 is a lot of money for this.

do like Klenger did, go to DVR.

just my penny's worth Marv.

This is one reason why when I'm truck shopping I only deal on the "out the door" price. That way I can compare apples to apples, i. e. the bottomline and who is going to do the best deal with no surprises. When you are shopping around let them know so and you are only interested in the "out the door price with no gotchas and written down" period.

Its worked for me :p

Have you spoken to the people out at Quality Dodge in Tooele. They have great pricing and I'm not quite sure of the fees, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Where have you gone so far?

Smith Motors in AF, Brent Brown Dodge?

I finally ended up going with Barber Bros in Spanish Fork. They wouldn't match Lithia Dodge's $1,000 below invoice but they would give me $750 below invoice. Their documentation fees are $149. 50.

Lithia in Pocatello? That's not bad considering the drive you have to make to Idaho. Three hours each way. Time is also money.

Blair

So What did you get??

No, that is Lithia Dodge in Eugene Oregon. Bellyscraper has been posting about it on here.

I got a 2500 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 SWB, monotone white, taupe interior, premium cloth upgrade, 5. 9L diesel, 6 speed, cast aluminum wheels, 6-disc in-dash CD player, folding flat load floor storage, limited slip differential, sliding rear window, bodyside molding, fog lamps, engine block heater, protection group, and trailer tow group.

MSRP is $40,413 and invoice is $35,497 before cash allowance. Minus $2,500 cash allowance, $750 for dealer discount, and $500 for farm bureau discount is $31,747. This is before the dealer's documentation fee ($149. 50), license/registration ($188. 50), and sales tax ($1984. 19). So total out-the-door cost will be about $34,069.

Been buying vehicles for business & personal use since 1962. Get written quotes signed by sales mananger, general manager, or principles only. Quotes are for cash with trade-in, out the door with all fees, taxes, registration paid, and plates on vehicle. Upon pick-up date have all paperwork ready for execution, vehicle prepped and pointed out the door. Know what you want before you shop, otherwise you may end up with something you never dreamed of.
