My Duramax\Allison 2500hd Crew 4x4 is in the shop having the transmission replaced after only 500 miles. No hauling and no offroad action. Just one bad transmission.
All the gears were gone accept reverse. Do any of the GM guys on this site have any good explanation? I'm not feeling real good about this $40,000 investment.

Ouch is right, but don't forget we have had a bit of trouble with the six speed. Also, there is going to be a learning curve on driving the allison transmission.

A "learning curve on driving the Allison transmission"? Give us all a break. What the hell do you have to learn to drive an automatic transmission? Ya put your foot in it and it shifts when it is supposed to. Of course, the fact that it is attached to a GM product could affect the outcome of normal driving.

Hey Ol ron... . I would have problems learning to drive an auto truck. Probably would stomp a hole in the floor for the first 10K looking for the clutch pedal lol.

Ol Ron, you do have to learn when to punch the OD off button on an AT, took me several years to figure out how to push that button just right. #ad

Ol Ron... let someone that is used to autos jump in and find all the gears in my six speed... better yet, use someone elses... I like my synchros! Same thing for me... if I drove an auto, I would keep stomping on the floorboard looking for the clutch pedal.


There are learning curves on everything, including owning a CTD.

Hey, My Dad has a 2001 Chevy 3500 Duramax/Allison. He has 6K miles on it, and just changed his oil, He tows 20K Daily, and as long as ya push the Tow/Haul button on the shift lever, the transmission and engine work perfectly together. The brakes are the BEST too, stops that 20K perfectly.

HMMMm - are you saying the Chevy's OWN brakes BY THEMSELVES "stops that 20K perfectly. ", or does the trailer or whatever he tows have its OWN brakes to, well you know, sorta help out, like MOST trailers do... . ? #ad


IF NOT, Jeeze, gotta get me a set of those incredible *Super GM brakes* that can stop a 20,000 load all by themselves on a regular basis... #ad
