These things are great, my barn I like to run it like it was back in the day and there are alot of things (tools) that will take a life just by handling it wrong. But this puts light on the subject. Used Dietz lanterns but was still wondering if I was milking the cow or milking the BULL had to feel around a little bit to make sure it had more teats and one udder :-laf

They used to be made in Germany..... but then again they were $199 when they were made there. (around Y2K)

Dietz is also a name that's been purchased by the chinese.

I'd like one, but at $114 it's still a little too rich for me n=being I really dont need one.

The dual fuel Coleman will suffice until I find one in a garage sale. :-laf

I have several of the Dietz made in NY one at the original plant and the others made in Syracuse NY. I like to have the old things like that but it was just a bit dangerous working in dim light. As with most things now made in CHINK LAND

Hey NASTY, you got the 500 or 150 candlepower? I'm torn on which to get. I think the smaller one would be better in the trailer, but when I set up the camp tent when there's several of us, I'd prefer the 500, I think... ... how much fuel does it use, say in an hour? And what are you using for fuel? I'd like to run diesel in mine, but I can get lantern oil/kerosene pretty easy... ...

HH I got the 500 for Christmas and have ordered the 150 to take camping with us. The fuel I use is Kerosene and somewhere in the lamp site it said it will burn for like 20 hours!!! I guess it has something to do with the way the fuel is atomized that makes it last and bright. I filled mine up the day after Christmas to use it in the barn and have YET to refill it I wanted to let it just burn out that way I kind of know how many days. Time wise I light it walk couple hundred yard to the barn collect the eggs feed the animals milk the cow and walk back so maybe 45 min to an hour a day? Found this but it is a different lamp than ours no matter what it still burns a long time.

After looking up your lamp, I remembered one my yardselling wife found a few years ago. It's a PicoStar 500. I have no clue how to use one and couldn't find how to on the net. Got any directions? Besides the where to put it and where to go answers LOL. I'll have to get it down from the barn rafters and look it over better. Sometime... .

Is it like the one above? For some great instructions look at the website on the first post they have vid's on how to and why. If not your guess is as good as mine how it works.

Most of the old style lamps like that used white gas. The lead in regular gas would plug up the generator valve. I guess now that regular is unleaded it would probably work fine. We grew up with those lamps and with gas powered irons. The mantels used to be really delicate so any jar would ruin them. Got chewed out a few times as a kid for that:-laf
