Not a lot of room inside for gages so I would like to put them outside and mount them on the hood, (right behine my Hadely air horn)! Has anyone done this? Do you know of a gage company that will make a product that will hold up to the elements. I don't own a boat ,but I would think they would have gages to monitor their temps. I'm in the thinking stage of this new truck project so if you've done this I would like to hear about it. Thanks RG.

Welcome aboard !!! I mounted a Autometer Ultra-lite on the hood for FP last year. It does fog slightly after heavy rain, but I like the location alot. Something different for sure as you don't see many CTD's with exterior gauges.

Here's a pic. of the mount I built...

And here's on of the gauge, which I recently swapped out for a Autometer boost gauge, as I needed a gauge that read more than 15 psi's...

Most of Autometers gauges are weatherproof. I had a set of Sport comps mounted on the hood of an older T/A i had for years. Its no problem at all for them.

Nick, not sure on the liquid filled gauge, never tried one. Unfortunately, mine fogs under the glass. I thought that I might see better results when I changed from the Fuel pressure to the boost gauge. I thought Autometer cured this problem, perhaps I got old stock from Summit Racing. Not really a big deal, although all that interior moisture can't be good for the gauge. Mine only fogs after a very heavy rain and clears itself when the sun hits it or whenever I break out the wifes hairdryer :D .

First Ram '94 didn't come with Tach--so got one from Whitney... Had the same problem Bigsaint has--it would get moisture once in a while---sure looked good thou, and worked too!! (early 1500 had two gauge packages and mine had cheap panel?!). R, J. B. :p

outside hood gauge

sorry i did not reply sooner, computer died for a while. I want to thank you for your inputs to my project of mounting my gages outside on the hood. The manufactures that i have contacted are not willing to say that they will hold up to the moisture. I am planing to put a hood scoop over them for some protection. Thanks again. ron
