Can't help with location but maybe bad connection, broken wire. Those type sensors do not usually fail but maybe. If you find the sensor you could put an ohmmeter on it and make sure it's not open.

I found where the sensor is. I need to go physically look at it, because I very recently had new headlights installed (old ones were hazed) and the shop very well may have done something to this. One of the bolts that holds the headlight assembly in place fastens the temp sensor. I actually just noticed the -40 reading a couple days ago....so no telling how long this condition has existed.... On a separate note.....When did you retire from USAF? I retired 1 Dec 1992 after 22 years.

I went in with the intention of staying but upper management eventually changed my mind so it was 1972-1976. I really did enjoy my job but the Loring AFB winters working outside on aircraft could be a challenge at times. I still miss it and would do it all over again. My SIL is a missle tech at Minot AFB and it looks like he is in it for the long haul, there is a point where you need to stay with time served. SAC definately had bases in the most ungodly places but overall it's good.

I found the problem and fixed it ! The incompetents at the dealership forgot not only to plug the sensor back in, the 10mm cap screw that holds it in place was not completely tight either.
