Ya the bear thing has been a dream for us, my Nephew asked me a long time ago if I would help him in what ever proj. he did for his theseus . It is a long term deal as it will be over the next 3 years at least. The camping and packing in not a problem I would do that no questions asked. But without any protection? That was the reason for the Marlin rifle that I have been working with. I really like it because you really dont notice it on the mule you have to look for it in the scabbard. It is comforting to know that it's there if needed. We have to get some permits from the USFS to have an extended pack string. The equipment list is as long as my arm. Pack light is not in their vocabulary. I hope it work's out.

Walk carefully but have a large bore carbine at hand, right?

I watched that video of the guy showing the virtues of his short barrel shoulder cannon on a 5 gal pail.

The only real carbine I have is a real Winchester 1894 SRC 32-40 from my Dad. A center fire cap gun compared to yours. I wish I knew the stories behind the nicks and history behind it. It is really slick to work the action on. The last factory ammo I found was John Wayne nicklel cased. I think I could get some other stuff now.

I really hope I NEVER have to use it. But I will if it's me or mine or them it's that simple. And most of the animals right's folks get it. But there is always one or two that dont. That's what tick's me off they bring up that my BIL is an outfitter and the killing of game is his livelihood. No it's not he's retired and it's something that was handed down in the family and he hope's to keep that going. I will do what ever my Nephew want's I talked to the wife and we have been out without gun's allot but I was quite uneasy about it.

BIGNASTY,

This is out of my experience, but I would want someone WHO HAS taken game, the firearm is their tool of saftey in the enviroment they have chosen. I want a skilled prepared experienced veteran woodsmen with trained nerves to look out for my saftey, not a can of pepper spray while I'm scared (you know what) less.

Pepper Spray? After the Bear kills ya, He rolls you around and sprays you with the pepper spray fer seasoning:-laf! GregH

Check these out:-laf!
