Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Over head console wire colors

I just installed an oem overhead console (no compass/computer just map lights), and am trying to wire them up, there are 3 wires-yellow, gray, and black, I tested the wires and it seems both lights always come on when I hit either side switch and they look dim, what's going on here? I tried a couple wiring combos and get the same results. Thanks for your help... .....

Try a direct ground ,dim lights and both on sounds like ground problems . Arnie

Yup, figured it out, I powered the wrong wire, constant power goes to the gray while the yellow is for the doo switch light. Thanks for the advice.....
