A guy once told me that it is a good measure to increase the tire pressure 5 psi over what the tire states if you are towing extremely heavy weight.

Is there any truth to this statement??

I think there may be some truth to that because my tire chart that came with the manual says to over inflate the tires by 5 - 10 lbs. when you plan on driving over 75 mph for extended periods. It doesn't mention weight it the paragraph so I assume they meant while running dry or loaded over 75 mph. My rig has the michelins

I think that the tire manafactures say that is "OK" to increase the pressure 10# over the max listed pressure on a "LT" tire. That CANNOT be done on a "P" rated tire.

Check the manufacturer of your tire for the straight information!
