Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Overdrive Problem

I have a 2001 Sport Auto Transmission. While driving at 55 mph the transmission shifted out of overdrive by itself. I tried to shift back into Overdrive but it wouldn't work. I pulled the truck over turned the truck off and then started it back up. I tried to pull out, but the truck was stuck in 3rd gear. I hit the Overdrive button and it started out fine. I reached 55mph tried to shift into Overdrive and couldn't do it. I got home and hooked my Smarty up and retrieved DTC code P-1693 and P-0500. Can anyone explain these codes to me?

1693 just means that there was a code set by the ECM or PCM.

0500 code is No Vehicle Speed Sensor signal.



On the 2001 model trucks the Vehicle Speed Sensor is on the top of the differential check for loose/dirty connector, bad wires before replacing sensor.

Mine did this on a Sat. afternoon just before I got home. Sunday I go to the store and no reverse. Overdrive unit went out. Call Goerends in Iowa 563- 778-2719
