I'd seen a thread over the past 2 weeks where someone had suggested having the transmission reprogrammed by the dealer so the overdrive shift point would move from 45 to 50 mph. I went lookin' today but now can't find the thread.

Can this "reprogram" be done to a '95? Service writer at the dealership indicated it could only be done on '97 and '98 models?

Second question ... Can the "kick down" shift point be altered for 1st gear?

Banshe,

Here’s what my dealer has told me: There is a TSB, #21-04-95, that supposedly addresses this. At some point in ‘95, the trucks were built with a new PCM module that can be flashed for the overdrive lockup points. If you have this later version, the flash and cost is about 30min. If you have the old PCM module and want this done, you have to replace the module at @ $440! Ouch.

I have an appt. with the dealer this Friday to check this out. If I have the newer module, I’ll have it flashed and let you know how it works out. If I have the older module... you’ll have to find out from someone with deeper pockets!

Banshee, that tsb #210495 is correct. I just went and checked mine as I had that done at about the 20,000 klm mark on my 94. The truck would shudder like you were going over washboad every time it would shift in or out of lockup. I must have been one of the first as they replaced the transmission and tc before they came up with the controller change. What that change did do was knock my fuel mileage down from about 28mpg to 24 mpg. Now that I have my trans mods done I think I will try to have it reprogammed back to the lower shift points as a previous thread suggested. If it still shudders I can always move it back up.

Kodiak & Leon,

Thanx for the help. If either of you re-flash the PCM, let me know what you think of it.

Thanx Again
