Ever since I have tweaked my fuel pump the overdrive shift has been a little picky, I turned down the idle a little. It seemed to be ok, just not quite the same, so I adjusted the TPS up to 1V at idle, it was at . 68V previously. It seemed to make the overdrive shift a little more delayed if anything. I have lived with it this way for a few months. My wife is driving the truck the other day approx 75mph and all of a sudden into drive it goes. It will shift into OD if the pedal is let up on all the way, but will only stay there until it decides it has been in OD long enough. I crawled under the truck to check the speed sensor on the back of the T-case, it looks ok - not loose, connection is good. So I am assuming it is the TPS and am waiting for Cummins Rocky Mountain to get one in on Monday. I called Dodge first they had a few in stock... $215  Then I called Cummins they say $51 and some change... :) So I will let you all know what happens when I change the TPS, it will probably be Tuesday morning.

Wish me luck

I had similar thing occur. I found that setting the voltage on the TPS down near . 5V - . 6V cured my problem. Give that a try before you spend some cash. Right now mine is set at approx. . 65V

If I go any higher it starts to do exactly what your seeing with yours. Also, your kick-down linkage may need some tiddling too.

Ya I was thinking about going back to where I was with the TPS voltage, but it has been working ok (not perfect) for about 3 months now at 1 volt. Seems strange to all of a sudden start acting up and shifting down out of the blue.

tps

That is caused by a bad connection in your tps. The tps is a potentiometer (or howerver you spell that). I drilled a hole in mine and poured alcohol in it and rocked it around a few times and then sealed it up with a small screw and silicone and it has worked perfect ever since.

Well, I got back into town and went to get my part from Cummins. Wrong part, they ordered in a crank sensor. It seems that they cannot get the TPS as it is a Dodge part. So since I got laid off this week I am going to hold off on the $215+ TPS from Dodge. I took my present TPS apart and cleaned it up, it now works as it did before...

NAPA sells a tps for our trucks, should be less than $200. 00 most stores wont stock it but it should be available the next day or so from the regional warehouse. now i have a question about how to test the tps can anyone fill me in , my chiltons doesn't cover this testing procedure.
