My overdrive stopped working last night. Im doing contract work in MO and I am finally going home after two months on Sunday. But now I need to fix my overdrive. I havent been home in two months. I have a wife and twin 4 year old boys and I have two teenage daughters that I was supposed to spend half the summer with but only have next week with before they go back to school.
Years ago my Throttle position sensor went out and I replaced it with a 5k Potentiometer because I have never had the money to buy a TPS($300-400). I replaced it today and still nothing. I noticed afterward that the protective coating on the wires that I had spliced into the harness to bypass the TPS were rotted away leaving the wire bare. They may have been touching each other. I dont know. So I spread them apart to make sure they werent touching each other. Did they short out something? Is it possible to damage the Overdrive solenoid this way? How do I trouble shoot this?

Thanks in advance for your help
