was wanting to move od switch from dash to the end of gear selector. has anyone else done this on 1st gen. ? only prob. I see is what kind of switch to buy that'll be small enough, and how does the gear selector knob come apart/off? any help appreciated very much.

Try a search on this. Rodney did this with his truck about a year ago. He got a second gen lever with the switch at the end and hooked it in to the existing switch. Will work from either position. He told me that the installation was easy.

Hope this helps.

wraney and boatpuller- I sent E-mail t both of you yesterday. Make sure you can read the attachment, I had problems opening it. I think it was straightened out but if not, I'll retype it and send again. Let me know.

Too late to edit my post, but the article is in the TDR Magazine Issue 37(not 38 as I posted). Issue 38 is still 3 months away!!

You can thank TDR member Rodney Howard for sending in the write up and diagrams for printing in the magazine. Good job, Rodney!! Thanks!!

I just got done installing the new shift lever and want to thank Rodney Howard for his great article. However, being lazier than most people, I did it slightly different. I ran the wires down the steering column, as directed, but instead of going under the dash, back by the firewall (age, eyesight and belly girth preventing this) I thought I'd try running the wires right out the frontof the hole in the dash, since the switch plate and dash insert would cover all that. I used extra electrical tape where the wires would be subject to chafing and it worked out alright for me. I just test drove and it works great.

Since I had the OD and Cargo Light switches out, I switched them around. With the OD light further to the right, I can see it a little better. I didn't have an extra light and wasn't sure where to mount it anyway.

Thanks for the great idea and part number!!
