I understand there is a possible problem with the NV 5600 and the partial cure is to overfill by 1 quart. Is this a working fix for bearing loss?

Isnt that a 1st gen getrag fix:confused:

Nope - some NV-5600 guys are doing that also, to improve lubrication, especially to the 6th gear (overdrive) bearings, which have proved to be sensitive to use when low engine RPM and heavy loads and steep grades are involved.

I have always overfilled mine some - as much extra as I could get in by parking the truck sideways on an incline - but usually could only get in another pint or so that way...

Overfill by 1-2 quarts, just fill through the shifter tower. This allows better lube to the bearings like Gary said. When pulling hills loaded the front bearings get starved, and when idling for long periods of time the rears starve.

I fill as much as I can whilse on the flat garage floor, put plug in, then pull the truck out onto some wood blocking to raise one side, then fill a bit more.

you can also fill through the top hole of the pto cover. buy a cheepo handpump, that works pretty good.

I just use the squeeze bottle the lube comes in and cut the tip off real small! Fits right in the top bolt hole, just make sure there is no dirt or debris around the hole first.
