Just a couple days ago I switched to Mobil Delvac 50. I was pumping it in through the shifter out of a 5gal pale and before I knew it I had pumped in 4gal of oil. I figuerd it would overflow after about 7-8qrts. Is that ok to have that much in or will it blow a seal. I remeber reading fill till you spill but now I don't think that's correct or I missunderstood.

As you mentioned, the oem lube capacity of the G56 is 7 quarts with a forum recommended extra quart overfill to keep the front bearing better lubricated.
If you run aftermarket transmission coolers like the TransCool, you can even add one more extra quart, as the cooler adds that capacity to the sump.
At 16 quarts, you are MUCH too far over capacity...at best you will dump alot of Delvac 50 into your cab through the weak, thin, top inner boot that keeps all that fluid inside the transmission and out of your cab... I would defintiely drain out 8 quarts, leave 8 quarts in before driving it anywhere.

Just leave fill plug out till it drains back down to bottom of hole........... Assuming you fill it same as any other manual......

Fill it until it comes out the fill hole, then add one more quart ONLY. You will blow the seals if you attempt to run it full to the shifter, as the fluid warms up it will expand slightly and blow out the seals.

Its a little hard to see the brown on the bearings but the races tell a better story in the pictures. That is why you over fill it by one quart, and I strongly recommend you add the trans-cool's to the PTO in place of the PTO covers. Also, if you follow my threads in the very near future, I'm adding a trans cooler on the front of the radiator with a pump to help keep the G56 cool, heat kills this transmission quicker than a steel cased trans.

I would be tempted to run my truck up on my oil change ramps under the right side wheels rolling the truck over to the left, pull the 14mm fill plug, and let it drain. When it stops draining you should be close to the one quart overfill.

I fill my G56 with the truck level to the fill hole, then I drive up on the passenger side, over a pair of ramps, then pump one quart in and install plug. Its very simple to do, and you can't goof that up.

"....and you can't goof that up", unless you get tangled up in the hose, knock the jug of MobilTrans SHC DC off the table where you have it elevated to help syphon, take a bath in the golden goo, and suffer the indignation of having your wife think it's hilarious. :-laf

:-laf:-laf:-laf We can't help it if you like golden showers! On a serious note, in about a month my trans cooler with with a pump installed will eliminate the need for that crap, I'll just use the pump to fill it til it comes out the fill hole, cap it then suck in one quart of oil with it.

The OEM auto Trans cooler that bolts up to your radiator, even though it's a manual Trans, and I found one for $106.00. The pump is expensive at $200.00 designed for pumping oil through differentials in race cars. The fittings and hoses vary in price, depending on the quality you chose. Another member installed a similar setup but he used an after market oil cooler. I'll post the entire project when I'm done.
