Well guys, I replaced my overflow valve on my 1996 cummins with 84,000 miles on it. Thanks for all who posted the tips because ,sure enough, those tiny washers ended up on the shop rag I tucked underneath the valve. I was hoping just to remove the whole thing as one but found there was not enogh clearance between the pump and the engine. Any way, it went smooth and no leaks afterwards. I measured the old spring and it measured . 428 inches. Probably worth replacing. I took it for a short test drive around the block so I don't know if it will be any improvement until I go to work tomorrow. Thanks again for the tips.
